A Note of Gratitude
During the month of November, Twain teachers and students are reflecting on what we are grateful for. We would love to hear from our valued families and community what and who you are grateful for at Mark Twain Elementary School.
Please take a brief moment to express your gratitude to our amazing staff by completing the google form linked below. Your words of appreciation make a great impact on our climate and culture. Thank you! :)
I will share all of your responses with the staff throughout the month.
Sincerely,

Twain Second Graders explore Communities
The 2nd Graders at Mark Twain have been learning all about Communities in Social Studies. Recently, they learned about the three types of communities: rural, suburban, and urban. Both classes collaborated to make large murals of each community. When complete, each group shared out their new knowledge of the types of buildings, businesses, natural characteristics, transportation, and places to have fun unique to each type of community. The Mark Twain 2nd Graders love working together and building their own "Community" at Twain.
SECOND STEP SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM K-8
As you know, in September we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Twain to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step.
Kiwanis Food Drive Update
Our Mark Twain students and families collected a whopping 1,352 canned goods and items for the Clinton Valley Kiwanis Thanksgiving Food Drive! WOW! With the help and guidance of our amazing Stu-Co Reps, we were able to collect, count, and pack up all of the meal items for families in need.
It was a close, last minute effort competition! We had 2 lower ele classes that ROCKED the food drive! Mrs. Huizdos's Kdg class and Mrs. Palus's 1st grade class brought in well over 300 items each. Amazing! Our upper ele winning class was Mrs. Albrecht's 4th grade class.
All 3 classes have each earned a pizza party. Congratulations to those kiddos!
Many thanks to all of our Twain Families for all of your generous donations!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

RAISE MONEY FOR MARK TWAIN ELEMENTARY
This is one of our last scheduled big fundraiser. Just in time for the holidays, purchase Texas Roadhouse gift cards and the school will receive 10% of total sales. Texas Roadhouse gift cards can be used at any of their 500 plus hometown locations. Forms and money were sent home last week and are due Monday November 28th. The Parents Club would like to thank you for your continued support.
Last call for missing items...
Our lost & found is overflowing. Items will be outside placed the office/media center this week for students to reclaim items. Items remaining on Tuesday, November 22nd will be donated to goodwill. Please encourage your child to check for missing items.
READY OR NOT- THE COLD WEATHER IS HERE!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
FAMILY PIZZA NIGHT @ JET'S - Monday, November 21st
WINTER MUSIC CONCERT
The 4th, 5th and 6th-grade students of Mark Twain Elementary will be having a vocal music winter program on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Fraser High School Auditorium (Fraser Performing Arts Center).
On the evening of the program, students should be dressed in their best holiday attire, as this is a very special occasion. The fancier, the better! Students should arrive and assemble in the FHS choir room between 6:30- 6:45pm. It is not necessary to arrive earlier that 6:30pm as the doors to the auditorium and choir room do not open until that time.
Lunch Aides Needed!
Lunch aides are needed every M-F. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Tonn at (586)439-6900 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
