Friday Flash
December 8th, 2023
Notes from the Principal's Office
The school is a buzz with excitement as preparations are underway for several major events here at the school. This coming Friday December 15th students and staff will be spending the afternoon in our outdoor classroom participating in a variety of activities. Chef Creed, Mr. Cook and Patrick Ross will be putting our new cast iron to the test by cooking wild game over the fire at one of our fire circles. Other staff members have science, art, reading and games planned. It's sure to be a fun event for the whole school.
Students are also working hard on songs for the winter concert and art projects for the Winter Art Show and Concert on Wednesday December 20th. Please come before the concert, between 5:30-6:15 for our Winter Celebration of Learning. Classrooms will be open to showcase student work. Also, that night information about our school continuous improvement plan will be on display, so that you can learn more about our goals to make NES a better place for student learning.
Don't forget Thursday December 21st is an early release day, at 12:15.

Positivity Project: Other People Mind Set Supporting Others When They Struggle
If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day, go fishing.
If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone. ~Chinese Proverb
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Supporting Others When They Struggle. This means when other people are struggling, we do our best to help them out.
Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Everyone faces tough days and needs support, and this support leads to a chain of prosocial behavior that makes us feel good about ourselves and our group.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
How do the people you help benefit from your support?
Staff Spotlight: Lily Williams
Third & Fourth Grade Teacher
Lily Williams is originally from Stony Point, New York. She earned her degree from William Smith College. Ms. Williams loves empowering students to see their own abilities. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with my family and playing with my puppy. She wants her students to know that she's happy to be teaching at NES this year! "I want my students to know that I believe failure is a key to success. I hope students know that making mistakes is an important part of their learning, and they are encouraged to share any and all ideas as they make discoveries in the classroom".
