CAMP ACADEMICS

GREETINGS

I would like to thank everyone for their calls, emails, and texts during my time of recovery.

I feel very humbled. I am looking forward to returning to my kids.

It is time for the big push toward Christmas break. We will have fun, but the learning in the classroom will be as important as always.

READING/WRITING

We are continuing to read and analyze Pat Mora's writing. We have read several of her books. We are concentrating on setting, plot, characters, and theme.

MATH

We have moved on to capacity. Have your child take 1 cup of water and put it in a container. Then take another cup of water and put it in a different shaped container. Ask them which contains more water. This is a great way for them to see that the container may change, but the amount is still the same. We will continue to work on addition, subtraction, and word problems.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Our emphasis is still on being a responsible citizen. We are learning ways to become good citizens every day.

SCIENCE

Soil is still the topic in Science. We are learning what soil is composed of. We are also learning about the best soil to use for planting.

PEARLS OF WISDOM

Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right.

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

The website of the week is: www.starfall.com

This website focuses on math and reading. It has a variety of activities for each of the two subjects, and it is free.

FUN FACTS

Apart from its vulnerability to fire, human hair is almost impossible to destroy. It decays at such a slow rate that it is practically nondisintegrative. It cannot be destroyed by cold, change of climate, water, or other natural forces, and it is resistant to many kinds of acids and corrosive chemicals. This is why it clogs sinks and drainpipes.
