DHS Class of 2024 Newsletter
Alabama College Application Week
This will be a quarterly newsletter to communicate important senior information and dates. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the school for assistance.
Alabama College Application
October 16-20
During the week of October 16-20, 2023, Alabama State Department of Education will be sponsoring Alabama College Application Week. Deshler High School will be hosting several different colleges and universities on campus to speak to Seniors. Students are invited to apply to at least one college with assistance from faculty at DHS.
As students complete a college application, they should show a counselor their completed application to sign the "I applied!" banner for the week. Students can stop by the library throughout the week for assistance in completing a college application.
Prior to College Application Week, UNA and Alabama will be visiting our campus to speak to Seniors who are interested. Additionally, NWSCC and Birmingham Southern will be on campus one day during College Application Week.
Mrs. Byrd will be sending out the information links and codes to waive the application fees next weekend since Tuscumbia City Schools is on Fall Break. Look for this information in your inbox next Sunday! DHS encourages all students to take advantage of this opportunity to apply to Alabama universities and colleges for no cost!

Transcripts through Parchment
Please see the video below on how to order transcipts to be sent to colleges as you complete your applications.
You can also follow these steps:
1. Go to www.tuscumbia.k12.al.us
2. Click "Schools" then "Deshler High"
3. Scroll down beneath the pictures and to the headline of "Important Information"
4. Continue to scroll until you reach the section that says "Transcipts & Education Verification"
5. Click the blue link (as pictured to the right) to be directed to the Parchment website.
6. You will then click "New Learner Account" and create an account (It is recommended to set up the account with a personal email so that it can be accessed after graduation.)
7. Once the account is created, students can log in and request their transcript be sent to colleges to which they have applied.
College Applications
It's time to apply to college! You are looking for the Fall 2024 application.
The typical steps in applying are usually
1) make an account (keep that username and password in your phone and DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL!),
2) complete the application, and
3) request to have a transcript sent through Parchment.
Once you have done all of this, it is not unusual for you to receive an email back from the college saying they don't have your transcript. Those emails are automatic and serve as a reminder for you to request it from us. For directions on how to request, see the section of this newsletter titled "Transcripts through Parchment." It may take a few weeks to fully process. Admission decisions vary from school to school
As you apply and are accepted to different places, remember to STAY ORGANIZED! For each school, you will probably have a username and password for your application, and then a separate username and password for the portal.
Also, remember that a college can not award you a scholarship without you having applied there.
SAT & ACT Test Dates
Students may need to take the ACT or SAT. Below are the test dates and registration deadlines. If they have questions about this or need assistance registering for the test, students can see Mrs. Almon or Mrs. Dixon during REACH.
