Principal's Message - Congratulations to our Award Winners
At the end of each month we like to honor many of our students with our monthly award program. One award we give is for Language Arts. Students who receive this award have shown tremendous growth in this area in past weeks. It must be a challenge for many of our teachers to choose just one award winner a month. In fact, as I visit our classrooms, I can see our students developing their reading, writing. listening and speaking skills. I recognize our Kindergarteners are beginning to link letter sounds into words. They are also mastering many sight words. I am excited to see our first graders starting to read sentences fluently. I am proud to look at the writing of our second and third graders as it expands and increases in complexity. I am in awe of our fourth graders for presenting their projects in front of their peers. I am proud of the confidence they exude as they speak in front of others.
Similar to Language Arts, we recognize many of our kids are making great strides in Mathematics. Our students not only are proving they can master their basic facts, but they can problem solve and apply these foundational skills. It is a privilidege to watch our students in the classroom get up and explain how to figure out their problems. I love that kids are sharing a different way to do math that they learned at home. We encourage their ability to do math in different ways.
Finally, each month we honor many of our "Bucket Fillers". These students build others up through compliments and their positive actions. I truly believe each and every one of our kids are deserving of this award as well.
Of course our teachers are a big part of our student achievement. Moreover, I extend much credit to our families who are working harder than ever to teach their kids. While this year has been a challenge, it is reassuring that our kids have a team of support.
It was a wild week of weather. I am looking forward to setting aside our snow shovels next week and being back on campus to congratulate our award winners in person.
Respectfully,
Kim Little
