School District 622
October 28, 2020 - Information for Secondary Families
Grades 6-12 Shift to full-time Distance Learning on Monday, November 2, 2020.
From Superintendent Tucci Osorio
Dear 622 Secondary Families,
Over the past few weeks, Ramsey and Washington county-level COVID rates have steadily increased. In the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) latest report, the 14-day case rate for Ramsey County is 26.22 and 32.65 for Washington County. While this data represents a two-week delay, current unofficial data shows that cases continue to increase in Ramsey and Washington counties. Minnesota’s Safe Learning Plan indicates that secondary students should transition to distance learning once case rates reach 30 cases per 10,000 residents.
In consultation with our regional support team, (MDH, Minnesota Department of Education, and county health officials), it was recommended that District 622 transition grades 6-12 to full-time distance learning. At our school board meeting this evening, it was decided that this transition to Distance Learning will begin on Monday, November 2, 2020. Here is a link to the school board presentation on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
Full-time distance learning will continue until at least the end of the first trimester on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. We will update families no later than Friday, November 20, about whether we will need to continue this instructional plan through the month of December.
It is important to note that this transition to full-time distance learning does not apply to students in preschool and elementary school. Once it has been determined that secondary students can transition back to hybrid learning, families will have the opportunity to select that option, as staffing levels allow.
Additionally, we will be working to expand our support for students who are struggling academically. The state has given us permission to continue bringing small groups of secondary students to school for in-person academic support.
At this time, high school athletics and activities will continue to the extent possible. Look for more information soon from your school and activities department.
Your child’s principal will share more information later this week. In the meantime, please make sure your student is logging into Schoology and is actively engaging in lessons. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your child’s school.
All of us want nothing more than for all of our students to be in school. Our staff will continue to make every effort to provide students with the best education possible in our ever-changing learning environment.
Let’s all continue to do our part by wearing masks, socially distancing, and using good hygiene methods, so we can get our students back in school full-time where they belong.
