MVES News- Welcome Back! 7/15/2019
News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck
Greetings to all Mountain View Families, Friends, and Community!
I hope that this newsletter finds you and your family enjoying a wonderful summer together. While there are still many more summer days left, I would like to personally welcome all of you to the 2019-2020 school year! This past year was full of learning, fun, excitement, and making magical memories for all students and staff. Thank you so much for the overwhelming support you have all given our school. We can't wait to see what this year brings!
We are busy preparing for what is sure to be another incredible school year. Our custodians have been working hard to clean the building and make sure it is spotless and shining for our first day back. You will notice several new things as you come back to MVES! I have listed these below and I've also included pictures at the bottom!
Sensory room:
This room is beside Ms. Trissel's classroom. Our school was able to purchase all of the items for this room using grant funding. This is a space that is good for all children and is available for any child who needs it! All of the features in the room, including the paint color, is designed to help children calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. We invite you to check it out!
Sensory Path:
We also have a sensory path in our main foyer now! This is a colorful, creative and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that enable kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks. Multiple students can go through the path at the same time. Our summer school students have really enjoyed it and we can't wait for everyone else to see it. We will be adding a second one throughout the year.
Gaga Pit #2
Gaga ball has been a hit at MVES and kids immediately head to the Gaga pit to play when they go outside. Since we have two recesses at MVES, and this is such a popular game, we are adding a second pit! This will hopefully be installed prior to school starting.
Student and Staff T-Shirts thanks to the PTO!
Our 2019-2020 PTO Board is once again purchasing a T-Shirt for every MVES student and staff member. When you come to registration and fee days on August 1st and 2nd, you will be asked to give your child's shirt size. Thank you, PTO!
Staff Changes:
Ms. Mary Shifflett who has been a third-grade teacher for the past 6 years will now be our Assistant Principal. I was able to hire Mary for this role this past spring!
As many of you know, several of our teachers are switching grade levels and some are looping with their former classes!
Ms. McIlwee and Ms. Behm are moving to 1st grade for this year.
Ms. Wheeler and Ms. Barger are moving to 3rd grade for this year.
Ms. O'Neill is moving to 4th grade for this year.
Mr. Trice is moving to 5th grade for this year.
New Faces!
These movements and the addition of a fourth 5th-grade classroom have allowed us to add some new faces to the MVES teaching staff!
Ms. Autumn Pequignot will be coming from teaching Kindergarten at Lacey Spring Elementary to teach Kindergarten at MVES.
Ms. Kelly Caffo, mother of Carter and Logan Caffo, will be teaching 4th grade. Ms. Caffo comes to us from teaching fourth grade at Waterman Elementary in Harrisonburg City.
Ms. Megan Hertzler will also be teaching 4th grade. Ms. Hertzler completed her student teaching at Linville Edom Elementary in RCPS and she is going to be a fantastic addition to the team!
Ms. Jo Enke, mother of Lulu Enke, will be joining the MVES staff as a music teacher.
Mr. Clay Harris will join the PE team, replacing Ms. Jordan who will begin a full-time PE position at Linville Edom.
Ms. Peggy Brubaker will be returning as a Full-Time Behavior Support Assistant. We are so excited to welcome her back!
As always, if at any time you have questions, concerns, ideas, or praises, please never hesitate to share them with me. Your children are our priority at MVES and my door is always open for you. We are committed to partnering with each family to make sure every child has a successful elementary school experience. You can also complete the survey included at the bottom of this newsletter. This link will be included in all newsletters again this year. We want to hear from YOU!
I am so excited for this school year to start and for your children to fill our halls and our classrooms! A school is only a structure without all of the wonderful people who come together to make it a community. I look forward to seeing all of you and your children during registration days. The schedule for registration is listed below.
Thank you for sharing your children with us. It's going to be an amazing year!
