The Highland Academy Weekly
Educating for Leadership, Educating for Life
Principal Greetings
We've had a busy week of MAP Growth testing. Thanks for your help preparing your child for testing. The results of this test will help us identify areas of growth for your child. We have a few make up tests throughout the week next week.
As a 6-12th grade school, we work through many issues that our society is currently facing. One of those issues is the use of appropriate and respectful language. We have a strong Culture of Respect for Everyone at Highland, and we try to hold all stakeholders accountable to that. Words are powerful. Students need to understand the impact of degrading and demeaning words, what to do when they hear these words, and how to advocate for themselves and others. We have been addressing this issue as a school and will continue to hold our students to high expectations. Please take time to discuss the power and impact of words with your child, and let us know if you have any questions or comments. We take the physical and emotional safety of our school very seriously.
September is attendance awareness month. Please help us meet our attendance goals by having your child here by 7:55 on a daily basis, and call any absences or tardies in by 8:00 every day. There is a direct correlation between attendance and academic progress. Please use the Rideshare Connections link below if you would like to connect with other families who live your region to help get you child here on time.
We continued to be honored to work with you and your family.
All the best,
~Ms. Johnson & Ms. Crosby

A Request From the Language Arts Team
Our Language Arts department is in need of copies of To Kill A Mockingbird and Romeo & Juliet. If you happen to have copies of these books that are gathering dust and you'd like to donate them, we'd gladly take them. Also, if you happen to see any books with the Highland Academy stamp on the top, please return them. We'll be emailing you directly if your child did not return a book last year, and we appreciate any help you can offer.
