Main Conflict
Creighton wants to do what is right, but also wants to stay loyal to his country.
Characters
Creighton: Creighton is the British-born gentleman who is sent to the British colonies after his father dies when he becomes too rambunctious for his mother to handle.
Colonel Grower: Colonel Grower is Creighton's uncle, who is a British colonel. He lied to Creighton and his family about what happened to Creighton's father and is the antagonist throughout the story.
Peter: Peter is the jolly giant who helps Creighton throughout the story.
Sophie: Sophie is the French girl who is Dr. Franklin's servent. She dislike's the British because she feels that they killed her parents.
Primary Setting
New Orleans, and Flordia
Events
Event 1
Creighton is kidnapped, and taken aboard the ship the Amity. Creighton gets sent to the colonies with his uncle because his mother can't handle his rough and wild behavior. (Chapter 2). This is important to the conflict because this is what causes Creighton to meet Ben, Peter, Benedict, and Sophie and to get acquainted to America's goals.
Event 2
The ship gets took over, and Creighton's Grower tells Creighton to act as his houseboy, for his safety. He meets Peter and gets taken to New Orleans. They assume that he is for the Americans. Colonel Grower is taken prisoner, and so is Lieutenant Hale (Chapter 4). This is important to the conflict because that is when Creighton meets the Americans and starts to live auth them, and get used to them.
Event 3
The printing shop gets set on fire, and Franklin dies trying to save the types. Creighton becomes upset with his uncle, and the British, for killing Franklin, by setting the shop on fire. (Chapter 15-16). This is important to the conflict because this is where Creighton's loyalties start to shift from Britain to the colonies.
Event 4
While searching for George Washington, they find Creighton's dad, Henry, in a camp, sick and injured, who tells him that doing what's right is what you should do. (21-23). This sis important because Creighton realizes that by choosing to be with America, and to do what's right, is the dignified and gentlemanly thing to do.
Event 5
Creighton and Peter return to the colonies, and find the print shop rebuilt, and Sophie is printing up a new newspaper. With the advice his dad gave him, Creighton now knows where his loyalties lie: With the patriots. (Chapter 24-end). This is important to the co float because this when he choose the Americans to have his loyalties lie.
