Superintendent's Message

Dear CCSD Family,

We're counting down to our "happy new year" celebration when school starts on Monday, Aug. 2, and can't wait to share it with you and your children!

We've spent the summer preparing for the new school year for both in-person learning and our Digital Learning students. Our First Day Facts report, a two-page round-up of back-to-school news, now is posted on our website online here. Please review it to learn more about what's new this school year and how to help prepare your child for the first day.

  • The Back-to-School Gateway for online first-day forms opens Monday, July 26.
  • The Bus Stop Look-Up webpage will open on Monday, July 26.
  • All CCSD middle school and high school students will receive their class schedules in their CCSD email on Tuesday, July 27, by the end of the day.
  • Walk-Throughs & Open Houses begin Wednesday, July 28.
  • The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 2.
  • The Versatrans My Stop Bus Tracking system will begin tracking the morning of Monday, Aug. 2.
  • The second edition of our Class Act magazine, which is filled with CCSD news and important information, will come home in your child's backpack the first week of school. It also will be posted on our website at

While we're excited about bringing back so many aspects of school put on hold for the past year and a half, from field trips to assemblies to classroom volunteers, we also know that COVID-19 may force changes to our operations. We encourage and recommend getting the COVID-19 vaccine. As we did last year, we will continuously monitor caseloads in our community and schools (every Friday, we will post online the totals of active cases among students and staff), take appropriate action and keep you informed.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer break and look forward to seeing you and your children soon!

Thank you,

Dr. Brian V. Hightower
