Pep Rally Seating and Visitor Sign-In
Parents,
Recent legislative updates effective September 1, 2023 in the state of Texas have initiated some new safety and security protocols here in SISD. One of those protocols involves visitors inside the school building during the instructional day. Consequently, we will begin checking in all visitors to campus events such as senior walk, pep rallies, etc. To help alleviate congestion and frustration the day of these events, we have worked to develop a proactive approach. For each event, we will send out a Google form to capture relevant information that we can use to get your visitor tags printed prior to the event. When you show up, your tag will be printed and ready for you. If you have not submitted a form, you will be required to enter the front office to be officially scanned in. This may delay your attendance to the event, so we suggest submission of the form before the provided deadline.
That said, we have a pep rally coming this Friday, September 8, 2023 at 12:10PM. Please submit this Google form by 7:45 AM on September 8 if you are planning to attend the pep rally. Please also bring your ID to use to pick up your sticker badge.
We hope you know that the safety and security of our students and staff members is our number one priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our kids as safe as possible!

State Safety Law on Vaping
Beginning September 1, House Bill 114 will make it mandatory for any student who is found with a vape to be placed into the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
Sunnyvale ISD is concerned about the long-term health risks associated with vaping and e-cigarettes. Parents can be powerful allies in addressing this health issue by taking time to educate themselves and their Raiders about e-cigarettes and vaping. Please review the information provided below.
SISD will provide further information regarding this new law, but we wanted to make you aware of it now, prior to the start of school.
As a reminder, in the State of Texas, it is against the law for any person, regardless of age, to use tobacco products or e-cigarettes on school property. The Penal Code provides for citations of up to $500 for violations of the law.

Student Handbook
SHS has an addendum to the SISD Student Handbook. Please take some time to read through this addendum with your student(s). Please note adjustments to the following:
Cell phone procedures
Late work
Tardies
Semester exam exemptions
Cell Phone Procedures
While this is covered in the handbook, we wanted to be sure that all parents are aware of our practices with cellular devices.
- Each classroom is supplied with a pocket chart that will be used to collect cell phones and other cellular devices each day during each instructional period for the full 45 minutes.
- Cellular devices are expected to be turned off.
Cellular devices will be allowed during passing periods and during hour block lunch.
Confiscated cellular devices will not be returned to students, but rather they must be picked up by a parent or guardian.
Bell Schedule
Hour Block Lunch
Formerly known as Power Hour, HBL will be used to support the academic, social and emotional needs of students. Below is a graphic of some of the academic supports that will be available for students and details about each. Please note that when these supports are assigned to students, parents will receive automated notifications via email. These emails will indicate date, location, the associated teacher, and what the consequences are if it is not attended.
HBL has been extended to 5 days a week this year, beginning Friday, August 25.
Students will also have time for eating, socializing, games, etc.

SHS Parents: Pay For Class Fees Now - Don't Wait!
What Are SHS Activity Fees Used For?
Class activity fees are used to assist student leadership in planning and executing special events throughout the year. The fees are set based on the needs of the class - as you can imagine, seniors have more events and needs than ninth graders. A great example of an event would be homecoming.
These fees are recommended but not mandatory. A specified list is below. You may need to use your laptop to view them.
