READ ACROSS AMERICA
Students meet Joan Bauer
15 enthusiastic students at Garcia Elementary had the privileged of meeting Joan Bauer, author of the book Soar. Students listened, interacted and learned on the different concepts she used while writing the book.
STEAM @ the Library
Here are the following activities:
Slime with the Cat
Students used their math skills on measurement to be able to put the correct volume of ingredients for the slime. They also applied their skills on mixture and solution to be able to produce the right texture of the slime.
Doodle Buddy
An Ipad App where students incorporated their knowledge and skills on technology together with their creativity by drawing their favorite Dr. Seuss character.
Stack the Hat
Students used their engineering skills to build the highest stack of hats using papers and cups. Mathematical skills on estimation was also applied.
Pop the Balloon
Students used Science concepts on force and momentum when they hopped and popped all the balloons at a given time.
Get Artsy with Thing 1&2
Students explored their creativity and imagination by making their own bookmarks.

Congratulations to these amazing students who have reached diplomas and reading degrees after reading certain number of words for each category.

Master's Degree
Marlen Gonzalez, from Ms. Flor Alfaro's 4th Grade class has read more than 1 million words and is the very first Master's Degree recipient of the PSJA Reading Laureate Program.
Marlen loves the Middle School Series and Dumb Diary series. She dreams of being a successful veterinarian.

Associate's Degree
Shout out to Maximiliano Calderon from Mrs. Maureen Ibarra's 2nd Grade class for receiving his Associate's Degree in the PSJA Reading Laureate Program. Max has read more than 250, 000 words. His favorite series is Harry Potter.
High School Diploma
Jonathan Martinez from Ms. Blasa Guerrero's 1st Grade class has read more than 100,000 words. He has earned the High School Diploma of the PSJA Reading Laureate Program.
Great job, Jonathan!
Edgar Gonzalez a first Grader in Ms. Alma Castillo's class has received his High School Diploma of the PSJA Reading Laureate Program for reading 100, 000 words and more.
Way to go Edgar.
