Captain's Log
Smooth seas are nice, but they definitely don't help us grow as learners. And I think we can all agree that this year is no smooth sea. So, I challenge you to embrace the waves and use this year as a positive learning experience. We are in this together, to support each other, learn, and grow stronger.

Talk Like A Pirate Day
We will have a treasure hunt for each class. In-person students will hunt for clues around the school, and virtual teachers will facilitate a hunt around a bitmoji classroom that Ms. Orchard is designing. Student "treasure" will be their Tribe Hat (big reveal!!). Directions for the bitmoji treasure hunt are on slide 1; please try it out ahead of time.
Virtual students will also have the opportunity to watch a Facebook Live video (with parent permission) at 12:00 of Ms. Olivarez doing a pirate book read aloud.
We encourage you to "piratize" the day and make it a fun, themed learning experience for our students! Make sure you let us know when to come take pictures! : )
Guiding Coalition
I would like to get 1 person from each of the following areas: grade level, specials, literacy aides, SpEd/Dyslexia, behavior team. Please email who will be the representative so we can get EDRs created. Note that participation will be viewed as a leadership opportunity and may support higher levels on the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). Our first meeting (which will include the campus leadership team) will be on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:15 pm.
Transformation Waco Zoom Online Support & After-School Tutoring
If you are interested in staying after school on Tuesday/Thursday until 4:45 to tutor students, please email Mrs. Helton. We will be able to provide extra duty pay for tutoring this fall.
Family Support from Mr. Ward
If you have a student or family you would like Mr. Ward to reach out to due to attendance, support with community referrals, or another form of assistance please fill out this form and he would be happy to help you. https://forms.gle/WJtqStQttnyu4tjg9
NWEA MAP
You need to show these videos to your students (AND ONLINE PARENTS) and have them do a practice test (it's only 5 questions!).
Online students with laptops will have to bring their laptop to school so we can download the app (most likely). Ipad students will need to download the app from Self Serve. Ms. Alvarado is working on directions/plans for these virtual students.
Alta Vista Lesson Planning
As discussed in PLCs, please work on your grade level (or subject) lesson plan design/template. Make sure you include the required elements from this document (slide 3). Lesson plans should be added to the Grade Level PLC folder in the Alta Vista Shared Drive.
- Alta Vista Dashboard (links to lots of campus information, websites, and Google docs)
- Safety Net Standards
- 6 Week Assessments (still in editing)
- Know-Show Documents (click on grade level folder and subject)
- TEKS Resource System
- TEKS Guides (ELAR)
- District Curriculum Website
The Alta Vista PLC folder has been cleaned up and documents have been moved to the correct grade level folder. :)

WISD Curriculum Website
Please remember that as a Transformation Waco campus, we must follow the Year At A Glance from TEKS Resource System (TRS) with fidelity. So while many of the WISD resources are very helpful, they may not always be perfectly aligned with our scope and sequence. TRS pacing trumps WISD pacing/documents.
Help Desk Support for Families
Staff Spotlight
Shout out to Ms. Diaz for being willing to help and serve wherever she's needed. She has a great attitude and is always smiling!
Shout out to Ms. Callan who is frequently working behind the scenes to support our teachers and students in reading. This summer, she attended a week-long training in order to bring more intensive reading support for our Tier 3 students.
