Types of Chemical Reactions

Nathan Gomes

Type of reaction in which multiple reactants combine to form a single product.

A + B = AB

Ex. Ca + O = CaO or Man + Woman = ManWoman

A Decomposition Reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a single compound breaks down into two or more elements or new compounds.

AB= A+ B

Ex. NaAl = Na + Al or ManWoman = Man + Woman

Single Replacement Reaction

    A Single Replacement Reaction, is a type of oxidation-reduction chemical reaction when an element or ion moves out of one compound and into another. That is, one element is replaced by another in a compound.

    A + BC = B+ AC

    O + LiK = Li + OK

Double Replacement Reaction

A Double Replacement Reaction, is a type of reaction that occurs when the cations and anions switch between two reactants to form new products.

AB + CD = AC + BD

LiBe + MnFe = BeMn + BeFe

Combustion Reaction

    A Combustion Reaction is a reaction in which one of the reactants is oxygen. The other reactant is usually a hydrocarbon.

    Needs the Use of Oxygen. (O)

    CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O + Energy
