Rethink Your Rubrics
Use Google Forms!
Reasons for Rubrics
Rubrics are an important tool for all teachers. They explain the criteria that will be used to judge a particular piece of student work. By using a rubric, teachers have a complete analysis of every student's work measured against a consistent scale, teachers can provide better feedback to students, and students can clearly understand what is expected of them in a particular assignment. There are lots of good online tools to create rubrics, but give Google Forms a chance to streamline the process and save you time!
Step 1
Create Form in Google Drive.
Step 2
Add the title first. The first question should be the student's name. This can be a Short Answer question (you type in) or a Dropdown question (choose from a list - you must import roster from Excel)
Step 3
The second question is your rubric. This should be a Multiple Choice Grid question. The Rows should be the criteria (content development, organization, etc.) and the Columns should be the ratings.
Tips
- You may want to include a screen shot of the rubric criteria, since the Multiple Choice Grid will only allow for the rating
- To create a dropdown list of students' names, export a roster from iNow to Excel and copy and paste it into Forms
The video below describes each step of using Google Forms to create rubrics. It also describes how to email students a copy of the completed rubric - this is a little complicated, so let me know if you want to work together!
