From The Principal
Teachers have communicated many important pieces of information prior to this event, but our teachers are excited to share additional details about classroom structure, processes, expectations and how we support students and families. This process is particularly important to our families attending Collins for the very first time.
The event will be virtual and set up in a webinar format. Teachers will host two sessions.
One session will be for our in person learners' families. (Families that will become in person learners for the second grading period would attend this session.)
The other session will be for our remote learners families.
Our Parent Information Night Date: Monday, October 5th
Times are being finalized and will be shared in next week's Collins Cadence, through Learning Community emails, and posted on CANVAS pages.
Wishing you a healthy and great upcoming week,
Shelli LeBlanc

Counselor Update
Colossal Cobra
The trait we are working on for the month of September is respect. Please check out the counseling canvas page for the guidance lesson on Respect. The teachers have been nominating students this month for us to award the students who stand out for Respect. The Colossal Cobra ceremony will be a virtual/student in person only ceremony as of right now. We will honor the nominated students in person during lunch at the end of this month, and we will have a Zoom meeting for the virtual students at the end of the month.

Dismissal
Car Riders
Starting at 3:40 PM we have two staff members who begin to scan all cars waiting in the car line. By 3:59 PM almost 80 to 90 cars have been scanned. Students leave their classrooms to report to their car cones and meet their parents based on the cars scanned in order.
If any cars make a u-turn or uses a neighborhood to break the line of scanned cars, their child will not be at the car cone for pick up. If that occurs, we will ask the car to exit and circle around to the back of the line so that the car sign can be scanned and the child dismissed using the car rider system displayed in the classroom.
Bikers/Neighborhood Walkers
For safety reasons, please have your child walk their bike across Shadowbend crosswalks. The children have been reminded, not only to walk their bike, but for all to approach the road slowly and watch for traffic. We have neither a stop sign or crossing guard at two of our neighborhoods between Collins and Lake Woodlands. It is so very important for students to be mindful in those locations.
Mr. Barnhart Update
First, I want to say thank you for all the support from the parents. Our students have been incredible! Everyone is wearing masks, sanitizing, and social distancing whenever possible. There is no way that happens without the amazing parental support we get at Collins so thank you!
GT Update - Referral Requests for Gifted and Talented Testing
Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January for both remote and in-person platforms, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 18. You may request a referral form from the front office or from myself, Mr. Barnhart. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
Everyone stay safe and healthy!!!
Mr. Barnhart
Nurse Kendall Update
Masks
Please remind your children of the proper way to wear a mask including covering the nose. We will all stay safe and healthy with proper mask wear!
Medication at School
Remember if your student needs medication at school, the parent must bring the medication and check it into the clinic and fill out the proper permission forms.
Vision and Hearing Testing
We have begun vision and hearing testing for all the in-person 5th grade students. It will take us a little longer to finish, due to trying to maintain social distancing. If your student fails vision or hearing, we will recheck in a couple of weeks and if he/she fails again, we will send home a referral letter.
Please continue to monitor your child for Covid symptoms every day before sending to school.
