Art Smart
Orchard Hills Art Smart is looking for a few good volunteers!
Open students' minds to art from around the world by sharing works that are contemplative and engaging. We have many artist portfolios to choose from, or create your own slideshow of an artist or art form that you enjoy.
Volunteering is as easy as signing up to visit in any month of your choosing for 30-45 minutes. You and your child's teacher can then arrange a mutually convenient date. We've had a great start to Art Smart this year, and we'd like to keep the momentum going!
For more information on the program, please visit the Orchard Hills Art Smart website.

American Red Cross Blood Drive
The PTO Sponsored American Red Cross blood drive is on February 11th at Orchard Hills from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. Please consider donating as one blood donation could save up to 3 lives! You can pick your donation time online at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code: novischools, or you can complete a form that's located in the office and your appointment time will be set up for you. You can also call Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). If you signed up to donate last year, you will be receiving a reminder email from Red Cross as well.
The students will have an assembly with the American Red Cross on January 22nd and information forms will be sent home in their Friday folders on January 24th for parents to use. Thank you for considering a donation to the Red Cross!
We are also looking for volunteers to help on the day of the blood drive. Please use the following sign up genius if you are able to help on February 11th. Thank you in advance for your help!
Student Health
It's flu season and we have had reports of influenza and flu-like symptoms. If you child has been ill with fever or vomiting, please keep them home until they have been symptom free for 24 hours.
See the linked fact sheet from Oakland Health
Prevent the spread of Lice:
As school is now in session, it is important to remember the guidelines for avoiding head lice. It has been found in classrooms this year so please be vigilant in looking for it and treating it effectively. The website below has very helpful information.
Additional Information
Attendance Notes
Please call the absence line 248-449-1401 or report an absence in MiStar by 9:00 a.m. if you know your child will be out of school.
All students must be in their classroom, seated in their seat by 8:38 a.m. If your child is arriving at the front door after 8:35 a.m., we ask you to park your car and walk your child into the building.
Students who are being picked up for an appointment will be called down to the office when the parent arrives at the school. Please inform you child's teacher if they will be leaving early. Please note that it is difficult to call a student down to the office after 3:15 because we are preparing for dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parent Drop Off Zone
After 8:35 a.m. you will need to park and walk your child in to the office.
Student Medication
If your child has a medical condition that the school should be aware of please contact the school office. If your child requires medication to be distributed during school hours or a Student Health Plan, they must be updated every school year, by a physician and you can find the appropriate forms on the NCSD website under Parents and Community—School Health.

Social Media, Website and Press Releases
Please see the below message from the Superintendent's Office:
Our students engage in many learning activities and opportunities throughout the school year. We capture this excitement and enthusiasm for learning through photos and videos that are shared on social media, the district website, and occasionally through press releases.
If, however, you would prefer not to have your child featured, please contact your child's school and they will be happy to give you an Opt-Out form. Please be aware that in filling out this form, your child will not be included in any photos, videos, articles, or student directories.
