Important Information for You!

Kindergarten PLC

As I believe all of you are aware, Wednesday will be the second Kindergarten/DK District PLC of the year. The PLC will be held at the Williams Property. District kindergarten and DK teachers will be work on continuing the 'Unpacking into Practice' work we began as a Thomson staff at our Early Release in November. Please watch for a formal agenda to come from the coordinators office.

5D+ Growth Plan & Mid-Year Meetings

This week I will begin meeting with teachers for mid-year reviews and Growth Plan meetings. Additionally, I will be working to complete all remaining second round observations. While I had hoped to have these all finished by last Friday, the three snow days really threw a monkey wrench into this. During my meetings with teachers, we will review your mid-year data and go through your Growth Plan and discuss if changes would be beneficial in moving your practice forward or if you will continue to work on the Areas of Focus identified at the beginning of the year. Please reflect on your student data, most recent Self-Assessment, current Areas of Focus, and the 5D rubric prior to coming to your meeting with me.

Thomson Mini QAR 2017-Follow-up

Michael came to me with a question about whether the Thomson Mini QAR is one of the five required meetings. The answer to that is 'no'. As in years prior, teachers will be given professional development for attending and hourly staff will be paid. However, since committee chairs are paid a stipend for work done outside of the school day and may be presenting, all committee chairs/co-chairs should plan to attend and will also be granted professional development. However, since School Improvement is a professional responsibility and our mini QAR will be attended by Central Office staff, community member, possibility Board of Education Members, and staff from other buildings, I hope that attendance is a priority for our staff...not to mention your fellow presenting staff members appreciate your support. Certified staff, if you are not planning to attend, please let me know.

After talking with Melissa and Michael, and as a means of updating our presentation and to honor your time, we will NOT hold our staff meeting this Wednesday morning. Instead, School Improvement Committee chairs should get with your fellow committee members to update the information for your slides at a time that works for you. Please just have this information to Melissa by February 9th so that she has adequate time to update the presentation. Melissa will work with committee chairs to determine how/who the information will be presented.

Again, the Thomson Mini QAR presentation will be February 15th from 4:15-5:15 p.m.

PTO Chuck E. Cheese Fundraiser

On Friday, February 10th, the Thomson PTO will be holding a fundraiser at the Flint Township Chuck E. Cheese. Our PTO will earn a percentage of all food and token sales on this date by those attending on behalf of the Thomson PTO. Any staff members that attend will be given a free personal pizza or salad bar dinner and be be able to go in the ticket tornado for free as well to see how many tickets they can collect for free...HOW FUN DOES THAT SOUND. Additionally, students will be given a sticker on Friday, February 10th for some free tokens upon arrival and Chuck E. Cheese himself will visit Thomson at the very end of the day to say 'hello' to the students and wish them a great weekend. If you can, please consider attending or bringing your own children and/or nieces, nephews, or friends. If you will be attending, please see me for the free token stickers for the little ones attending with you.

Box Top Challenge

During the Box Top Challenge, our students brought in 11,142 Box Tops which equals $1,142 for our PTO to use to do great things to support our students and staff. Our top three classrooms in order were: Room 2, Emily; Room 12, Sarah, and Room 8, Julie. Each of these classrooms will get an additional $30 to spend for their classroom and Emily will also get a $30 gift card for herself. Thank you to all of you for your support! You have no idea how much our PTO appreciates it.

A huge 'thank you' to our teachers for a wonderful two Data Days last week. I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful discussion and keeping kids first and looking our for their individual needs...no matter what they are. Additionally, thank you to our support staff for all the work you do to ensure that students get what they need. This is a great staff and I am truly greatly to work with each of you!
