Perseverance:
I CAN ASK FOR HELP ALONG THE WAY.
We all know that we cannot be the best version of ourselves without the support of others. So then, why is it so difficult for us to ask for help when we are struggling? Let’s look at what it requires of us to admit when you ask for help. When you admit you need help, you are saying:
you do not know what to do.
you do not have the skill to solve the problem.
you do not have experience in the situation.
you are not as smart (or as strong) as you want other people the think.
you are not able to handle your own problems.
You are not _________________. (fill in the blank)
All of these things take great vulnerability to admit. But, everyone, every single one of us, feels this way at some point in each day. Asking for help takes a great deal of trust for, and from, the person you are asking. It can be scary to admit these things to others, because many of the items on the list above can create judgement from others. People will usually do a great deal to avoid these types of condescending thoughts, or behaviors, from others. Asking for help is a two way street. It is a combination of courage and trust in someone else’s integrity. As you go through the week, be courageous enough to ask for help when needed and be a person that can be trusted to help without passing judgement.
