Exam Schedule
OSTC STUDENTS
**On the first exam day, all AM and PM students attend OSTC. On the half day, no students will attend OSTC. As far as the O.W.L 3rd hour class goes, students are to report to class on Friday but may be dismissed if a parent calls them out - students will take an unexcused absence. NO HHS students should ever leave the building without a parent contacting the office.**

FAMOUS LAWYERS, ACTIVISTS, SCIENTISTS & POLITICIANS
First Lawyer: John Mercer Langston was the first Black man to become a lawyer when he passed the bar in Ohio in 1854. When he was elected to the post of Town Clerk for Brownhelm, Ohio, in 1855 Langston became one of the first African Americans ever elected to public office in America. John Mercer Langston was also the great-uncle of Langston Hughes, famed poet of the Harlem Renaissance.
Famous Protestors and Activists: While Rosa Parks is credited with helping to spark the civil rights movement when she refused to give up her public bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955—inspiring the Montgomery Bus Boycott—the lesser-known Claudette Colvin was arrested nine months prior for not giving up her bus seat to white passengers.
Supreme Court Justice: Thurgood Marshall was the first African American ever appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and served on the court from 1967 to 1991.
Eminent Scientist: George Washington Carver developed 300 derivative products from peanuts among them cheese, milk, coffee, flour, ink, dyes, plastics, wood stains, soap, linoleum, medicinal oils and cosmetics.
First Senator: Hiram Rhodes Revels was the first African American ever elected to the U.S. Senate. He represented the state of Mississippi from February 1870 to March 1871.
First Woman Representative: Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to the House of Representatives. She was elected in 1968 and represented the state of New York. She broke ground again four years later in 1972 when she was the first major party African American candidate and the first female candidate for president of the United States.

💲 Scholarship Opportunities 💲
We have 23 Local Scholarships that are now available in the counseling office and on the Counselor portion of our HAS website. Most of the deadlines for these scholarships are April 2, 2024. The winners of our local scholarships will be announced at the Senior Awards Assembly scheduled for May 10th. Our latest addition includes the Holly Chamber of Commerce Scholarship. Please encourage your students to apply to all of our HHS Local Scholarships.
Parents, if you would like your senior recognized for University Awarded Scholarships at our Senior Awards Assembly, please have students fill out the attached form for Scholarship Acknowledgement. This form must be turned in to Mrs. Price in the counseling office by the deadline of April 12, 2024.

Spring Blood Drive
Holly NHS is running a Spring Blood Drive on Thursday, March 14th, from 8-2pm. The blood drive will take place in the Holly HS gym and is open to all Holly HS students who are 17 or older or who are 16 and have a parent/guardian consent form completed and signed. All HAS staff are also encouraged to donate! If you have any questions, please contact Krystle Voegel, Holly NHS Adviser.
HAS District Art Show
Mark your calendars, Holly Area Schools is bringing back the district wide Spring Art Show. Over 500 pieces will be on display. Artwork will be available for preview on Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday May 1st. The art show is open to the public on May 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30PM in the HHS Learning Loft.
FCCLA is raising funds for Club Foot surgeries and our Chapter to travel to the State Leadership Conference in March. For every pair sold-- another pair will also be donated to local families! To order online: https://hollyhsfccla.fundsnow.org/
