Parent Meeting Information
We had a great discussion on Tuesday night at our parent meeting. (If you couldn't make it, there is a link at the bottom of the page to view the power point). Part of that discussion was about computer science. According to Computer Science: The Future of Education, it is predicted in 2020 there will be 1.4 million jobs in computer science and only 400,000 computer scientists http://www.edutopia.org/blog/computer-science-future-of-education-alison-derbenwick-miller. With this in mind, we are committed to getting kids coding at Truman Primary. We are planning on doing whole class "unplugged" activities in the regular classroom, provide activities through GT, and as a school participate in Hour of Code in December. What can you do at home? Emily Overland shared a fantastic article with us on How to Get Kids Coding. This article has some great suggestions for apps and websites. We urge you to explore this website! Watch the introductory video to get a sense of what is available. Code studio is what we are doing in Botball. If your child is not in Botball, we recommend Course 1 for Kindergarten and Course 2 for 1st and 2nd grades. Truman Primary (1st and 2nd) will participate in Hour of Code the week of December 7-13.
