A Note from Ms. Buschmann
MAP Testing at HMS
While the Grade Level Assessments that we take are only a single snapshot of what a student knows, they are important tools for us as we work to continuously improve our school. We want every student to do his or her best so that snapshot is an accurate one. There are a few things that you can do at home to help support us during testing:
- Talk to your child about doing his or her best while building confidence that he/she has been taught the skills and knowledge to do well
- Make sure students get plenty of sleep before testing
- Eat a good breakfast with protein for the brain to feed on
- Keep your daily activities as routine as possible
- Avoid scheduling conflicts with testing such as doctor and dentist appointments
Thank you for your continuous support of your children and our school.
From the Student Council Communication Group
This month at the Hermann Middle School we had a student of the month with the character trait of self-discipline. Alyssa Riley, from 6th grade, performed Perfect by Ed Sheeran. This month Anna Wright from 5th grade, Melanie Rohling from 6th grade, Itera Christian from 7th grade, and Charlotte Ervin from 8th grade all won student of the month. The 7th and 8th-grade volleyball girls won their game on the 27th vs Washington Middle School. The student council had their second meeting on the 28th, and they talked about grit. We are looking forward to Missouri Read-In day on March 9.
Also, the dance was March 2, 2018. The middle and high school choir concert was on March 6, And the band is performing on March 14th. This Friday, the 9th, all the parents of the kids at Hermann Middle, will get to come and have lunch with their children. Also, they will get to see the book fair with the students they can also buy books as well. We also have the girls' volleyball game in St.Clair Thursday, and 7-8 got to go if they earned it.

Student of the Month
Student Council members took over as coordinators and emcees of the Student of the Month Assembly in February. They prepared the lesson on self-discipline and one of most impactful things they included was, "Discipline is just choosing between what you want NOW and what you want MOST." That is a hard-fought lesson for adults, let alone adolescents, but an important one.
The nominees for February:
Middle: Melanie, Dwayne, Paige, Gavin, Lucas, Jayden, Sheilah, Donna, Sandra, Charlotte, Ryan
Back: Drake, Blaine, Kole, Brody, Andrew, Allyson, Lance, Shelby, Iteara, Parker
February's winners:
