after closer inspection....

....our school rocks! This week, our Kindergarten, First and Second graders spent time reviewing fire safety rules with members of the Shawnee Fire Department. It is such a great program and service provided by our community. One of the biggest issues in fires involving children is that they are scared by the firemen in full uniform so they run away from them or hide instead of coming to them when they're in danger. Opportunities for children to interact with a fireman in all stages of their uniform take this concern right out of the picture. We are so grateful to our community partners for the time they commit to our students each and every year.

Following instruction, the firemen completed their yearly in-depth inspection of our school and gave us perfect score of 100%, A+. Belmont had no code violations, just as we'd expect. Our team does a wonderful job of paying attention to the details required to meet the strict codes that keep our student environment a safe place to operate.

Finally, we conducted our monthly school-wide fire drill under the supervision of the Shawnee fire team. Our students did a wonderful job of listening and following directions throughout the drill; again, just as expected!

Now it's your turn! Do you have an emergency plan for your home? Have you practiced it lately? This might be a great weekend to make sure that everyone under your roof is ready to stop, drop and roll to safety.

Do you love food and children?

Looking to work while the kids are in school? Want your nights and weekends off for family time? We’ve got a spot for you! The Student Nutrition department is now hiring for the following positions:

· SN Assistant at Monticello Trails MS (10am – 2pm)

· SN Substitute Assistant – days/hours vary

Fall Party Information-October 28 & 29

Fall PTO Parties are scheduled for Thursday, October 29th. Morning EC Class parties will begin at 10:30 a.m. with all afternoon only and K-5th parties beginning with the parade at 2:45. Miss Jill's M/W morning class will celebrate at 10:30 on Wednesday, October 28th.

You can help us to keep our fall celebration days safely on track by following these easy guidelines!

First off, please remember that although students are invited to wear costumes to the Fall parties, those costumes should be designed to be entertaining, not actually scary for our littlest Bullpups and Bulldogs (and Mrs. Hargrove). No blood, no guts, no gore, no weapons and no violence, please.

1/2 Day KinderDogs may wear their costumes to school as it is difficult for them to get dressed on their own and their day is so short.

Our Preschoolers (they have lots of helpers), Full Day Kindergarteners, and 1st-5th graders need to bring costumes to school in their backpacks or bag marked with their name. Time will be given for students to change from 2:30-2:45.

Please save some excitement for Saturday evening trick-or-treating by leaving hair and face paint at home with extra costume parts like swords and daggers. Masks are fine as long as kids can see well enough to walk safely during the parade which will start at 2:45 for PM & all-day classes. All other class parades will be scheduled and communicated by individual teachers.

Classroom parties are from 3-3:40 in the classrooms. Thank you to our many parent volunteers who help to make this event happen! Volunteers may go to the classrooms beginning at 2:30. We will be maintaining our normal daily schedule until then, so disruptions to the classroom will be kept at a minimum with your help. Thank you!

As safety is always important, please remember that the parties are intended for Belmont Early Childhood and Elementary students of attendance only. Parent (or approved high school) volunteers are welcome, however, coordination through PTO is appreciated so that we don't overload any of the classrooms. We do not have babysitting services during parties, so please make other arrangements for siblings if you intend to attend. All ages would be more than welcome to join us for the parade in the gym (or maybe outside if the weather permits), but please do not plan to take younger children down to the classrooms.

All visitors must enter through the front doors and sign-in and out...even on party days! Thank you!

PTO Welcomes YOU!

Thank you so much for your family's participation in the Apex Fun Run! Our students had a blast with the apex team and the leadership lessons learned by all followed by the actual run day were really exciting. Early results are in and our profit was over $13,000!! Your generosity was amazing! Our PTO will be reviewing how that money will be spent in funding PTO and school wish lists for the 2015-2016 year at our very next PTO meeting. You are invited to join us in room 201 at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26th. Thanks again for all you do to support education in our classrooms.
