WLCSD Transportation Update - Jan. 10 - 14

Over Winter Break, our partners at Dean Transportation were hard at work recruiting, hiring, and training new drivers for our District. Despite this progress, we’ve been informed that our recent bus route cancellations will remain with us into the new year as new staff members are hired and trained. While we deeply regret the imposition this creates for our families, we acknowledge these cancellations are necessary to safely provide transportation services to as many of our WLCSD families as possible.

Out of fairness to the families already impacted by previous weeks’ cancellations, we will be cancelling different routes each week throughout the District to help share the burden this unfortunate situation creates.

January 10-14, the following buses/routes will be cancelled:

  • Bus 161 - WL Northern HS, Clifford Smart MS, Oakley Park EL

In-District Transfer and Schools of Choice Information for 2022-2023

Student Transfer Request

The Walled Lake Consolidated School district is not an open enrollment district. Resident students are expected to attend the school that is assigned to their address. If you would like your child to attend a school other than the one assigned to your address for the 2022-2023 school year, you must submit a Student Transfer Request Application.

The Student Transfer Request Application period for the 2022-2023 school year is January 3, 2022 – January 17, 2022. Any application received after January, 17 2022, will be noted as late.

If you have any questions, please contact the Walled Lake Schools’ Student Services Department at 248.956.2085.

School of Choice

The 2022-23 window for Schools of Choice will run from January 17, 2022, to February 6, 2022.

More SOC information including the application will be updated on the district webpage: https://wlcsd.org/parents/enrollment/schools-of-choice/ soon. Please check the website during the application window and reach out to our Enrollment Department with any questions.

iReady Diagnostic #2

All students will be taking the second iReady Diagnostic in the coming weeks. Teachers will be scheduling testing sessions sometime between Monday, January 10 - Friday, February 11.

As classes complete both the Reading and Math diagnostics, parent reports will be sent home for your information. We use information from each diagnostic along with classroom assessments, assignments and observations to determine how to best continue planning instruction to support your students growth. Please contact your child's teacher if you have specific questions about iReady.

What is the i-Ready Diagnostic? The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjust its questions for each student. As a student answers correctly, the questions get more difficult. As a student answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. This adaptability allows the i-Ready Diagnostic to identify the strengths and opportunities for growth of each student.

Why is my student taking it? The purpose of the i-Ready Diagnostic is not to give your student a grade, but instead to determine how best to support their learning. It will help your student’s teacher(s) determine their needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the year.
