Gregory Families' Weekly Wave
November 21-25
Two Days of School and A Holiday Break!
This is a short week! Monday and Tuesday are regular school days, Wednesday is a Vacation Day, and Thursday/Friday are Thanksgiving holidays!
We had an amazing turnout for our Book Fair. Thank you to all our volunteers! The book fair could not have been successful without you!
Please make sure your child arrives on time each and every day. Chronic lateness adds up and your child is missing crucial morning circle, level setting for the day, and announcements both school wide and in the classroom. Studies show that students who are on a daily routine perform better academically and are better adjusted socially. Please reach out if you need help or resources with getting your child to school on time. Here is an interesting article from healthychildren.org about the effects of chronic lateness or absences in school.
We've had many cases of the flu and other illnesses. Read below 6 simple ways to help keep your child healthy.
I hope you have a safe, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving and Fall Break.
It's going to be a great short week of learning and teaching because WE ARE GREGORY and WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
Kind Regards,
Hilda de Leon, Principal

Middle School Students End of 9 Weeks Ice Cream Sundae Social and Music Celebration!
Tuesday, November 22nd our middle school students who have been kind and have worked hard this 9-weeks will receive a wrist band on Tuesday morning and will be served ice cream sundaes in the cafeteria from 2-2:30 PM. Our fantastic music teacher Mr. Hendrix will put together great music for them to enjoy! We want to show them how much we appreciate their kindness towards one another and their teachers and their hard work to achieve to their greatest potential academically.
We are seeking registered volunteers to help us serve them and their teachers. Please contact Ms. de Leon or a Middle School teacher if you'd like to serve sundaes on Tuesday!
Saying Goodbye and Welcoming "NEW" Counselor and Teachers
We had to say goodbye to Sam Maurer our AIG teacher. She loved the beautiful memory jar filled with kind thoughts and memories written by her colleagues and by students. We wish her luck in her new career that allows her to be with her own young children! Congratulations to our own Gregory teacher and EXPERIENCED AIG teacher already on staff, Mrs. Stepanski for seamlessly stepping into the role of AIG Teacher at Gregory in January! Until January, she will continue to teach 5th Grade while fulfilling some AIG duties. She will also be able to assist in onboarding and acclimating our new 5th Grade Teacher (TBD). Our 5th graders will still get to see Mrs. Stepanski and we will announce our new 5th Grade Teacher very soon!
We are so excited to welcome back our new (not new to Gregory) Middle School Counselor Mrs. Whitney Bennett McCoy who is returning to Gregory after Thanksgiving on November 28th. We are happy for our current M.S. counselor, Mrs. Mangan Shrauger who will be closer to home and to her parents as she and her husband await the arrival of their baby daughter! Her last day with us is Nov. 22nd!
Families can expect messages and letters from our new staff very soon!
Fun Turkey Cookies That The Kids Can Make!
HOW TO MAKE TURKEY COOKIES?
- Open an Oreo cookie in half.
- Pour some melted chocolate on one side.
- Stick a few candy corns.
- Place the other cookie on top and stick it together.
- Decorate the turkey face with candy corns and eyeball candies.
TIPS FOR THANKSGIVING TURKEY COOKIES
- Instead of Oreos, any other brand of chocolate cream filled cookies can be used.
- Eyeball candies can be ordered online from Amazon or Wilton or they can be found in the baking aisle at most grocery stores.
- Don’t use frosting to stick assemble everything because it’s not very secure and does not dry hard like chocolate. Also, frosting is more messy for kids.
