Cowbell sales are just one of the ways we raise money to help our students!
Another thank you!
Our chapter recently got a big boost from some local help!
First, local band Almost There raised $756 for our Fall campaign during a recent gig!
The band is made up of Fairport grads, and family of Donna Yawman. Donna is the namesake for our annual Honor Award, and a Memorial Scholarship.
Band member Phil Yawman, Donna’s son, also recently won an award that included a $2000 donation to a charity of his choice. He chose Donna’s scholarship.
Thank you for your support!
Scholarship Spotlight: Tara DeRosa!
Meet Tara DeRosa!
The 2012 grad was the recipient of the Five Angels Memorial Scholarship. She currently works with the Center for Preoperative Medicine. She helps screen patients before they have to undergo surgery.
Tara applied for the scholarship because she was inspired by how the Fairport community came together following the tragedy.
"Though I was only in seventh grade at the time, I learned one of my biggest life lessons about what the word “community” actually means," Tara said.
Following graduation, Tara attended the University at Buffalo and earned her degree in Nursing. She spent time as as a registered nurse in the surgical intensive care unit, COVID intensive care unit, and post-anesthesia care unit while she went back to school at St. John Fisher for my Master’s Degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Tara says she was grateful for the support from Dollars for Scholars, and encourages others to show their support.
"People should give back to organizations like Dollars for Scholars because it gives students various opportunities to pursue their passions and life goals, even if it’s just in a small way."
