Happy Valentine's Day!
We had a special Valentine's Day party on Tuesday and got to celebrate together.
The kiddos got to make their unique Valentine's Day mailboxes and bags. They loved using stickers, stamps, markers and crayons to decorate their box/bags however they wanted. Everyone worked on reading their friends names and locating their mailboxes in order to deliver their Valentine's. This is very hard work and can get a little crazy! Your kids did really well handling all of the excitement!! We were proud of them.
This week we did some great crafts together we made Love monsters out of crafts bags and your children were in charge of all of the details. Some kids added fangs, some added 8 eyeballs...etc. it was a nice opportunity to demonstrate individual creativity. They loved this freedom of expression! We also learned about the letter Ii, and made a special ice cream craft in a whole group. We had to follow directions and positional concepts. We followed a teacher model and at the end got to add sprinkles, cherries and a little bit of our own flair. Yum!
Miss Becky came into to do a great social thinking lesson with all of us! We read a story on the smartboard that tells us how to think with our eyes. When we look at someone else's eyes it gives us clues as to what they are thinking about. When we think of others as well as ourselves we are able to work together better in our classroom community.
This week we also had the opportunity to go over key skills such as drawing people, writing our names, and reviewing classroom rules. On Friday we had a short, but very happy day! The kids did floor puzzles and string art during choice time. They love the floor puzzles because they are so huge and allow us to spread out. During string art, the kids got to learn about a new process for creating art. We danced, slid, rolled, dabbed, twirled and snaked our pieces of string over top of our paper and through the paint. The results are just spectacular!! Today, we also had art with Mrs Nice!

Next week...
We will be learning about letter U and begin a fun study about balls of all shapes and sizes.
This study will showcase children's interest in balls to help them explore social studies and science concepts related to the features and nature of balls, and to use skills in literacy, math, technology, and the arts as they investigate! This study is part of our new curriculum and we are so excited to begin it with your kiddos!!
If anyone would like to come in at any point to be a mystery reader in class just send an email! Your kids love when you come in!
