Common Core/Smarter Balanced Update--What's Next?

Reminder: The resolution that passed earlier this month stated that:


  • The State Board of Education and MDE issue a full report by December 1st on all available assessments; how the assessments would be used and the costs for the local districts
  • MDE will put out an RFP for an assessment that aligns with the Michigan College and Career Readiness Standards
  • The assessment must be able to be implemented for grades 3-11 by September 1, 2014
  • Legislature will evaluate all assessment options in the FY 2014-2015 school aid budget based on the RFP
  • MDE can continue to participate in the development of assessment options and recommendations only.
