Message From Mr. Majeski
Greetings, Komensky Families!
As this week comes to an end, I want to share a few important notes with you:
- As you've seen on Facebook, Twitter, as well as through notes I've e-mailed home, our School Board has begun discussions for next school year's budget. Due to cuts in State funding for our district, we've been operating with a budget deficit. Cuts being considered include school closings, special education and support staff, privatizing services such as custodial and transportation, as well as our preschool program. I encourage the Komensky community to be involved in these conversations. The next School Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27th at 7PM at Heritage Middle School. Please plan to attend this meeting to hear more about the status of the budget and what cuts could impact our students at Komensky.
- Next week is national No Name Calling Week! I particularly like this week because it boils down bullying to a concept that is concrete and easy to understand for students at the elementary level. Bullying can be a tough concept to understand, however our students know what calling someone names means and they know how name calling can hurt. Throughout the week, we will be talking about name calling in all of our classrooms and celebrating the week with spirit days. Please look below for the schedule of our spirit days.
- Finally, I wanted to let you know that we will be wrapping up next week with an assembly on Friday regarding Erin's Law. Erin's Law is a new law in Illinois that requires that schools teach students, in an age-appropriate way, about sexual abuse. We've invited Imagination Theater in to explore this topic with our students - with the message being "Safe Touch." I will be sending home more information on Tuesday so you are equipped to answer any questions your child may have after the assembly on Friday.
Don't forget that we don't have school on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day. We will see everyone on Tuesday!
Have a great weekend!
