Message from Mr. Wilbanks
It is September 11, and today we understandably are focused on the continuing impact of Hurricane Irma on Florida, Georgia, and surrounding locations. Our concern, thoughts, and prayers go out to all the people affected by the storm, as well as to all still struggling to recover from the effects of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, and particularly in the Houston area.
It is a time of tremendous hardship and anxiety for many Americans, and as their fellow citizens of this great country, we stand ready to assist them in every way possible. We will have more to say later in the week regarding how we as a school district might make a collective effort to help our neighbors in the storm-ravaged areas.
Today, however, we also must remember the terrorist attacks that took place 16 years ago in New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, claiming the lives of 2,997 innocent people on American soil that Tuesday morning. I encourage you and your colleagues to recall the events of that tragic, historic day and observe a moment of silence in remembrance of the lives lost and the families and friends who still mourn for the victims.
In the midst of these challenging times, we humbly and thankfully ask God’s blessings on this nation and all its people, today and always.
Thank you.
J. Alvin Wilbanks
Scholar Spotlight
Counselor Corner
This week we had two great events. Teachers chose the classroom "Eagles of the Month" based on them exhibiting the character trait of respect. The scholars had breakfast with the principal and were given a certificate to recognize them for going above and beyond. Way to go Eagles!
We also had a special lunch in honor of Grandparents Day! We were so excited to see so many grandparents and close family members show up to have lunch with the students. Grandparents play a great role in the lives of our students. We loved seeing the smiles on our students faces as they had lunch with their grandparents and introduced them to some of the staff at NMAPA.
This month character trait is "responsibility." We look at responsibility as being accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes and setting a good example for others. Students will practice being responsible by doing what they are supposed to do, planning ahead, using self-control, being self-disciplined, and thinking before they act. Please help your students practice responsibility at home, by always doing their best!
