Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We would like to welcome our new 7th grade Senators to OMS and welcome back our returning 8th grade Senators for the 2022-2023 school year! We are excited for another year with this amazing Senator community.
You will be receiving weekly newsletters every weekend. Our newsletters normally contain a look at the week ahead, important information, and student learning highlights. In addition, we will compile all newsletters on the OMS website under the families tab. This will help our families access past newsletters without navigating the email inbox.
Today's newsletter focuses on some key information regarding the return to school. As always, if you have any additional questions you are welcome to call the main office, (630) 719-5815, between 8 AM and 4 PM Monday - Friday.
After-school Activities - We are excited that sports and after-school clubs will be taking place again this year. Information was previously shared about our Fall sports: Cross Country and Girls Volleyball. After-school club information will be shared in September.
After-school Activity Bus - OMS will have an after-school activity bus for students who stay after school for help or to participate in an after-school club. The bus will run Tuesday-Thursday and leaves OMS at 4 PM. The activity bus will begin on Tuesday, August 30th. You must be a bus rider to take the activity bus.
School Supplies - Student planners and organizational binders will be distributed during the first day of school. Families who ordered school supplies through the OMS PTA will be able to pick up their supplies in the cafeteria during our Locker Setup Night on Tuesday, August 23rd.
Student Chromebooks will also be distributed during the first few days of student attendance.
PE Uniforms - Students will be changing for PE this year and families should purchase their PE uniforms from Holy Cow Sports. PE uniforms from older siblings may be used. PE uniforms will not be needed until Thursday, September 1. PE Uniform Flyer: the summer online store has closed. Families now need to go into Holy Cow Sports to purchase PE uniforms.
Lunch - We are excited to be fully using our cafeteria this year! ALL OMS families will need to either send their child to school with a lunch and a drink each day or deposit money for lunch into the Pushcoin account. Students will use their student ID to pay for lunch. We will provide a monthly lunch menu in the newsletter each week. Lunch and a drink will cost $3.25 per day. The cafeteria is not able to accept cash.
Student ID - Students will receive a temporary student ID on the first day of school and will receive their 22-23 OMS school ID during picture day on September 1. 8th graders may use their student ID from 7th grade until picture day.
Picture Day - Information about Picture Day will be distributed at Locker Set Up night but mark your calendar. Student pictures will be taken on September 1st in PE classes (students will not change) and Make-up day will be November 2nd.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. Durbala & Mr. Cobo
2022-23 Middle School Bell Schedule
We are so excited about our new middle school bell schedule and the great opportunities this will provide for our students. Each student will start their day with Advisory followed by their 1-8 class periods.
Advisory will be used for our weekly social-emotional learning lessons (every Monday), and for our executive functioning support. Tuesday through Friday, students will receive instruction and reinforcement of consistent executive functioning strategies to help them stay organized and support their success as a student. Each student will receive the materials to support this school-wide system that will be reinforced throughout the school day.
After Advisory students have periods 1-8 with lunch during 4th or 5th period. Students can tell their lunch period by looking at their schedule and finding the "L" meaning Lunch. If the L comes before the classroom (i.e. L/204), then lunch is first and vice versa. The second half of the lunch period will be used for student support. This time is used to complete homework, seek additional help if the teacher is available, and will allow for academic intervention and support. Any time you feel your student requires additional support, please reach out to the teacher and counselor.
Please click the link for our new bell schedule below and you can also find it on our website.

STUDENT SCHEDULES
Student schedules will be finalized and posted in PowerSchool on Monday, August 15 at 2:30 PM. Any information you view prior to that time and date is not official, and may still be subject to change as schedules are finalized. We will send a reminder message on August 15th which will include directions on how to access the schedules in the parent portal. Please note that each school will have a unique time when student schedule viewing is enabled. Your child’s schedule will not be available before this time. This is to minimize the number of users logging onto PowerSchool’s servers at any given time.
In order to ensure viewing your child’s schedule, you will need to be able to log into your secure PowerSchool Parent Portal Account. Families can navigate the portal by visiting dg58.powerschool.com and signing in with their username and password. Information about creating a portal account can be found here. If you need assistance, please contact our school office (630-719-5815) and we can help you get signed in.
