Copeland Hoofbeat
December 21, 2017
From the Principal
It is hard to believe that 2017 is quickly coming to an end. It has been such a great start to our school year! The end of the second marking period will be January 19th, and report cards will be going home on January 29th, 2018.
Unfortunately, we have had many illnesses among our staff and students. We are encouraging hand washing, and all surfaces and items that are touched often have been cleaned frequently. Please help us by keeping your children home when sick, and we do not encourage their return to school until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications. Thank you so much for your cooperation in keeping us all well at school.
There are still many coats and jackets in our lost and found! We will be putting them all out again on our stage in the cafeteria at Copeland when we return, and we will allow students to look for their lost items during all lunches. All items not claimed will be donated to a local charity on January 12th at the end of the school day.
Our Pennies for Patients Kickoff will be January 11th, 2018. Students will receive boxes to fill with their change and bills to support research for cancer. The class who raises the most money will earn an Olive Garden pasta party! How exciting!
Be safe, and have lots of fun with your families during our break from school! I cannot wait to see you all in the new year, and I am looking forward to an awesome 2018.

From the Nurse
Dear Parents,
The Harris County Health Department recently alerted area schools to an increase in influenza-like illness. To protect the health of our community, please remind your students about the importance of covering their cough/sneeze, encourage frequent and thorough hand-washing throughout the day and consider obtaining an influenza vaccine. Students with fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, chills, cough, sore throat, headache or body aches should be kept home from school and should be evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider for appropriate treatment. Your assistance with these measures will keep our community well.
Please adhere to the District/State policy regarding fevers.
III. Temperatures
The Texas Department of State Health Services defines a fever as an oral temperature above or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.
The District, as mandated by The Texas Administrative Code of the Department of State Health Services, requires you keep your child home until he /she has been fever free for 24 hours without requiring fever reducing medication. This allows the child to recover and prevents unnecessary exposure of classmates to potential contagious illnesses.
If you have any questions feel free to call the clinic at 281-856-1406 (Parents please put this in your cell phones and keep your voice mail box empty for messages). The fax number is 281-463-5510.
Thank you,
