Timberland High School Teacher Mr. Michael Oliva was recognized for having been named the 2021 Marketing Educator of the Year by the Missouri Marketing and Cooperative Education Association (MCEA). The honor recognizes his significant contributions toward quality programming resulting in high student achievement in marketing and cooperative education.

Timberland High School Senior Kamden Hill was recognized for his selection to attend the American Legion Boys Nation. Kamden was part of the week-long, hands-on experience where young leaders received an education on the structure and function of federal government, held in Washington, D.C., July 23-31.

The Board of Education approved the hiring of Brynne Cramer as the new Chief Communications Officer. She is currently the Communications Manager for the Francis Howell School District and replaces Derrick Docket, who has accepted a position outside of the District.


Prior to working in Francis Howell, Brynne served as a Communications and Public Relations Manager for the American Association of Orthodontics. From 2012-2019, she was the Marketing Director at St. Charles Community College. Ms. Cramer has a Master of Arts degree in Communications and a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Relations from Missouri State University. Ms. Cramer recently won a National School Public Relations Association Excellence Award in 2021 and is a graduate of Holt High School.

The Board of Education approved the retirement of Melvin Bishop, principal of Stone Creek Elementary, effective June 30, 2022. Mr. Bishop has been with the WSD since 2014.

Summer School Program Evaluation

Dr. Keri Skeeters, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, presented a review of the WSD Summer School Program. Of note, it was shared that a new program called Kindergarten JumpStart was launched. Partnering with Parents-as-Teachers, incoming kindergarten students were invited to participate in this program designed to help them prepare for kindergarten.

Horizons Update

Laura Parn, Executive Director of Student Services, and Lori Weber, Gifted Program Department Chair, shared an update of the District’s gifted program, also known as Horizons. The Gifted Education Program is designed to provide challenge and enrichment to identified gifted students.

Trane Update

Jennifer Geen and Scott Hardwick from Trane presented an update on the Trane Energy Performance Contract. The project performance and verified energy savings for 2020-2021 were reported at $386,000 -- more than $33,000 over the contractual guarantee and the projected savings for 2021-2022 are estimated at over $400,000.

Tax Rate Approval

Prior to the start of the Board of Education meeting, Chief Financial Officer Rick Angevine led a presentation on the Tax Rate process. The Board of Education approved the recommended Tax Rate for FY 2021-2022.

Naming of North Point High School Football Field

The Board approved setting up a committee to establish a process of naming the football fields at Liberty High School and North Point High School. Secretary Schaper, Director Abbott and Director Garber agreed to join the committee.

WSD COVID Update

Dr. Cain shared information related to the current COVID-19 conditions in the WSD. Recommendations of mitigation efforts were shared with the Board of Education. The Board voted to increase the masking requirement threshold to 5% and to approve the other recommended mitigation strategies, with masking optional, to be revisited during the Board’s next meeting which is scheduled for September 28, 2021.
