Writing
After we have finished up our study of the Personal Narrative we will spend a few days next week studying poetry. We will also spend some time over the next few weeks taking a closer look at Idioms.
Reading
We will be very busy these next two weeks in reading. This week we will be completing the final week of Unit 6. Due to the Unit Assessment next week we will only be covering new skills this upcoming week, May 4th - 8th. Next week, we will be completing the Unit 6 Assessment.
Here is a breakdown of skills and strategies we will be covering over the next week.
Genre: Narrative Poem
Comprehension Skill: Point of View
Literary Elements: Rhythm and Rhyme
Vocabulary Strategy: Idioms
Grammar: Prepositions
Spelling: Suffixes (-ful, -less, and -ly) - Spelling test Friday, May 8th (This will be our LAST spelling test of the year!)
There will not be a spelling test the week May 11th.
Home Reading Sheets (green sheet) will be due on:
- Friday, May 8th
- Friday, May 15th (This will be the LAST Green Reading Sheet of the year.)
If you are looking for an idea to check your student's reading comprehension at home here is a question you might ask:
- Ask your student to identify the author's point of view (author's feelings) toward a topic they are reading about. Then have your child write down two or three pieces of text evidence to support their answer.
Math
Unit Studies
Over the last few weeks of school we will continue our study into the history of Lincoln. We will be looking at the first groups of people to settle in our area as well as groups of immigrants who settled here. We will also be looking at how our community as grown over time.
Odds and Ends
Monday, May 11 (Your child will need to return all library books checked-out on this date.)
Remember Friday, May 8th, is the Downtown Walking Tour Field Trip. We will be leaving Cavett around 9:00 am and will return shortly after 2:00 pm. Your child will need to bring a lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the lunchroom. If your child is bringing a lunch from home please make sure the lunch is completely disposable.
Please help your child remember to wear comfortable walking shoes this Friday, for our field trip. We will stop for drinks on the tour, but your child is also welcome to carry a water bottle with them.
