Wilson Hill Weekly
11/4/2022 Parent Newsletter
Wilson Hill Families
It was another great week at Wilson Hill. Today all of our students began working on making special blankets to donate to local hospitals for children through our monthly Den of Ten program. The students seemed very excited to take part in this giving activity and have discussions around compassion.
Reminder: NO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY 11/8 (ELECTION DAY)
Below you'll find the updates for the week. Please reach out directly with any questions.

New Updates:
Veterans Day Assembly 11/11 @ 9am
We will be holding our annual Veterans Day Assembly this year on November 11th @ 9:00am. Our 3rd graders will be performing a few songs, and we also are planning a guest speaker. Any Wilson Hill student who has immediate family who have served are invited to attend our assembly. We will also have some limited seating available for parents of our 3rd grade performers. We also plan to video record the assembly and will send out a link afterwards for those who would like to watch.
School-Wide Safety Drill on 11/17
Wilson Hill will be participating in a school-wide safety drill on 11/17th at 1:00pm. Students and staff will practice the Lock-out and Lock-down safety drills - two drills intended to keep students in classrooms during a suspected emergency and prevent all outside entrance into the school.
We realize that safety drills have the potential to create anxiety for students. Our goal will be to provide clear information in a caring manner and to conduct drills in a way that does not cause fear or anxiety for students. Prior to the drill, teachers will work with students in an age appropriate way to understand the difference between the two types of drills and to review expectations during each drill.
In addition, this safety drill will allow our school to practice communication in the event of a true emergency. As a parent/guardian, you can expect to receive notification on the day of the safety drill via email and text message at the onset of the drill and after it has concluded. Since this is occurring across all of our buildings, families with children in multiple schools will receive drill messages from each school. We apologize in advance for sending multiple messages, but we want to make sure all of our systems are working.
If you would like to confirm or correct a phone number or email address so you can receive notifications, please update your information in the Emergency Data Review section of the parent portal. Instructions can be found here: Emergency Data Review Instructions. Please update any information in advance of the scheduled drill.
Student Council SOCKtober a HUGE Success
During the month of October our Wilson Hill White Tigers were collecting socks to donate to the Huckleberry House. This is an organization that offers services to children and families in need as well as offers a transitional living facility for at-risk or homeless children.
I'm please to announce we collected a total of 1,872 pairs of socks! 1st grade ended up in first place with a total of 493 pairs and will recieve a popcorn party! More importantly our students learned about the importance of "giving" and helping those in need.
Safety Reminder
As a result of our earlier school start time for the 2022-23 school year, and the days getting shorter, the majority of our morning arrival process is now occurring in the dark. Many of our White Tigers walk or bike to school. If your child walks or rides their bike, please be sure to review bike and pedestrian safety rules with them. You can find some general information here: https://www.transportation.gov/pedestrian-bicycle-safety
Drivers, please be extra careful when approaching school from the neighborhood streets, as many of our surrounding streets do not have sidewalks. Thanks for helping keep our students safe!
Halloween Candy Collection
If you are looking to discard any unwanted or leftover Halloween candy, Wilson Hill his collecting any donation in the office. We will be collecting candy through next Friday, 11/11. We will be sending all candy we collect to US soldiers overseas. Thanks in advance.

Previous Updates:
Panorama Surveys
Dear Wilson Hill Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our well-being and social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year and every year. Over the next few weeks, students will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
As we have done for the last several years, we will be asking for your child to reflect on his/her own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete and will be administered during a two-week window from November 7 - November 18, 2022.
We are partnering with Panorama Education, a third-party vendor, to support us in administering these surveys. The survey content will ask students in grades 3-12 to self-reflect on School Safety, Teacher-Student Relationships, Sense of Belonging, Rigorous Expectations, and Self-Efficacy.
Student voice matters to us and their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our instruction to meet their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether.
If you have any questions about the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) survey, please don’t hesitate to contact us in the office at 614-450 - 4800
Respectfully,
Principal Addy
