One of our new electives this year is Curious City: Western Springs Edition. Taught by history teacher, Lynn Rees this elective course follows the pattern of the Curious City podcast. In each episode the crew dives into one question about Chicago, and in our version of it kids are getting curious about Western Springs. As a part of their research the Western Springs Tower Museum was nice enough to host our class for a field research trip. Take a look below for some pictures from the trip.
For those who love history, adventure, and creativity Mrs. Rees also teacher another history elective that dives into the stories and neighborhoods of Chicago.

Illinois 5 Essentials Survey
Beginning now, students in grades four through twelve, as well as all teachers across Illinois, will be taking the 5Essentials Survey. As required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), this survey is designed and administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of each school across our state.
The survey gathers data related to five indicators that are correlated with important student outcomes. These five indicators are Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction.
The Illinois State Board of Education is also inviting school districts to offer an optional Parental Survey to their parent community, and District 101 has elected to participate. This survey is designed to gather parental thoughts on the same important factors noted above and the impact they have had on school effectiveness at your child’s school.
The Parent Survey is currently available until March 31, and can be accessed by clicking HERE.
If at least 20 percent of parents at a school complete this survey, a parent supplemental report will be generated. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
While this summary information is included on our School Report Card for general reporting purposes, I do very much value and appreciate your perceptions of Forest Hills and would greatly appreciate it if you all take a few minutes to complete this brief survey.

6th grade Outdoor Ed (Repeated)
8th grade to LT Transition (repeated)
Tuesday January 31 - LT Counselors visit McClure. Each student will have an opportunity to meet with an LT counselor to review course selections. Students should come having submitted elective choices via the Google form and should bring their completed course selection worksheet.
*Students with IEP plans may meet with a counselor, but do not need to.
**It is preferred that all students meet with LT, even those who do not plan to attend LT. It is easier to remove a student from a class than to create a new seat in sections that have already been set up.
Friday February 17 - Last day to contact LT for core or elective course changes.
Check out this fridge-sheet from LT for more upcoming events

Community Events
From the Lyons Township High School Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS) club. GEMS was founded to support girls in the community with an interest in engineering, math, and science through mentorship, career guidance, and real-world experience.
