ROCKLAND HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER UPDATE
August 19, 2022
The Principal's Corner
In this update, I want to communicate reminders about important dates in August and September, information on how to access student schedules for the upcoming school year, highlights from the leadership trainings held this week, information on the upcoming athletic season, the availability of bus routes, and some good news on the school breakfast and lunch program.
During the leadership training on Wednesday, August 17th, I shared with the students that on the back of their t-shirts were three words: Commit, Care, and Celebrate.
I shared with the leaders, but I will share with all of our students on opening day that I want each student to commit to their school, learning, and club/activity/sports teams. I explained that this means being on time, actively present, and communicating when you cannot make it.
I explained to the students that I wanted them to care about their school, each other, and most importantly themselves. I emphasized how the building must be treated with respect, how each student should be treated with kindness, and that students must take care of themselves most importantly, so they are emotionally healthy and prepared to be the best version of themselves.
Lastly, I want all the students to celebrate their accomplishments, their peer's accomplishments, and the school's accomplishments. To celebrate, students should attend as many school events as possible, including drama productions, music performances, athletic events, etc. There is so much to be proud of as we go through an academic year and I want each student to experience bulldog pride.
I'm hoping as a school community we can all embrace this message: Commit, Care, and Celebrate, for the upcoming school year.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns as we prepare to start the new school year!

Guidance Notes
We are happy to announce that student schedules for the 2022-2023 school year are now available on the Aspen Student Portal. Please note schedules are not yet available on the X2 Family Portal since this will be activated when the other schools in the district release their schedules to students next week. In other words, students need to log-in to their own “student” accounts to view the schedule since the Family Portal is not yet live.
To access a student schedule in Aspen, please do the following:
1. Log-in to X2: https://ma-rockland.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do
2. Go to MY INFO Top Tab.
3. Select CURRENT SCHEDULE on the left Side Tab.
If you would like to request a schedule change, please keep the following in mind:
We do not accept change requests based on teacher preference.
If you request a course level change (for example: changing from Honors to College Prep), this will require written approval from a parent/guardian - an email to your Guidance Counselor is fine.
Electives - every effort was made to schedule you into electives of your choosing, however, you may notice an elective you didn’t choose in your schedule. If that is the case, this is due to academic scheduling priorities and/or class availability. We are happy to discuss elective options but cannot move academic classes to accommodate an elective change.
There is a 3-day drop/add period at the start of each semester for elective changes. For the first semester, this day period will be August 31st, September 1st and September 2nd.
We strongly encourage students to request schedule changes before the start of school.
Counselors will be available (in the office or by email) on August 24th & 25th. Counselors will also be available on a limited basis on August 29th and August 30th. We strongly encourage you to call or email to check counselor availability if you want to meet in person. The guidance office number is 781-871-8410.

Extracurricular Life Happenings
Leadership Training/Lock-In Held on August 17th
During the training students participated in student-led workshop, listened to an outside speaker Dr. Dariel "DT" Henry, participated in community building activities, received freshmen mentor training, learned about the newly created Senate Leadership Council, and learned about expectations for our athletic captains for the upcoming year.
Thank you to the Student Government Council for taking the lead in planning the event. SGC Advisors Ms. Bartoloni and Ms. Penney worked extremely hard over the summer to plan a fun and engaging leadership training for our students to kick off the year. Thank you to Athletic Director Mr. Kimball and Freshmen Mentor Advisor Ms. Donovan for their contributions to make the event a success.
Band and SGC Camps Held!
The Student Government Council Camp focused on team building and bonding and the third day included a collaboration day with the Band Camp to work on student leadership skills. Students developed communication, teamwork, and leadership skills and bonded as a council.
During the three-day Band Camp, students practiced sectionals, performed a group rehearsal, engaged in a joint leadership seminar with Student Government Council, and learned Parade Fundamentals. Students also practiced show tunes, stand tunes, and parade tunes. All the students put forth a great effort.

Athletic Trainer Information
Marisa Viscocchi (MVisocchi@rocklandschools.org)
An up-to-date physical is required by all student-athletes to participate in fall athletics. Physicals are valid for 13 months. Make sure to schedule your physical and upload an electronic copy to your Arbiter Registration profile.
Baseline IMPACT Concussion Testing
August 22 and 23 (Times TBD)
Concussion testing is valid for 2 years. All incoming 9th and 11th graders must attend their sport specific date. Please reach out to AT Marisa Visocchi if you are unsure if your child is in need of a renewed baseline concussion test. These tests are also a requirement for all student athletes to participate. Please bring your Chromebooks!
Rockland High School Athletic Boosters
The Rockland High School Athletic Department is reliant upon the support of our Boosters Program to ensure student-athletes are able to conclude their athletic seasons with a banquet to commemorate their season. The boosters also fund our championship gear and other necessities. We are in desperate need of parent volunteers to continue supporting our Bulldog athletes!
Meet the Coach's Night was held on Thursday, August 18th in the auditorium. During this informational night, athletes and parents learned about the school and MIAA policies and got to meet the varsity coaches.
School Lunch Program
We want to update you with exciting news about universal free school meals. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to extend free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students.
School Busing Information
Go to MY INFO Top Tab and then in the details, the bus route time and locations are at the bottom!
Since parent accounts have not been enabled yet, you can only access this information from the high school student's account.
For any questions on busing, please contact Ms. Novio (nnovio@rocklandschools.org).
