Principal's Message

Welcome back to school. I hope that you have had a great summer with family and friends. It is that time of year again when we are buying school supplies and clothes for the first day of school and waiting with anticipation to see our friends and meet our teachers. Being principal at West Central is both a great honor and responsibility. My vision is to work with our experienced and dedicated teachers, parents, students and community to create a learning experience that both inspires and prepares our kids for a fulfilling life. As we gear up for the 2019-20 school year, take a minute to review some important information. If you would like to be more involved in school planning and keep up to date, please consider joining our School Council. We meet every third Wednesday. Our first meeting is Wednesday17, Sept at 7:00 in our Conference Room and we are looking for parents to give us feedback and be involved. All are welcome!

If you have any questions, you can send a message through our facebook page or call the office at (403)845-3711

Cell Phone Use

Although technology is a useful tool, unfortunately we have been seeing the effects of smartphone misuse and overuse in the classroom. When students are distracted by texts, snapchats, facebook posts or phone calls during class time, they are not learning. Our teachers are concerned about the impact of smartphone use during learning time and its impact on your child's learning and development. There have been academic studies that have identified smart phone addiction as a contributing to anxiety and depression in our teenagers. Take a moment to watch this video of Lior Frenkel as he explains why being hooked to our Smartphones is the most interesting - yet silent - addiction of our times. Supposing the smartphone is here to stay, he urges us to become aware of the addiction - and discusses what a digital diet should look like.
