Principal's Message
STUDENTS: Thank you for giving the staff time last Thursday evening to begin preparing for our next WASC Self-Study. It is the process that we undertake to make sure that we are continuously evaluating and improving our school for you. You may also be asked to participate by completing surveys, being part of one of the groups, or reading and providing input on the report.

ABE News
You may have noticed that instruction in our ELA classes now encompasses the 4 components of reading: Comprehension, Alphabetics, Fluency, and Vocabulary. This is part of our ongoing effort to deliver Evidence-Based Reading Instruction, a proven approach in helping adults learn to become better readers. If you are enrolled in our ELA 2 or ELA 3 classes, this month you will be assessed in those four components. Expect about a half hour series of assessments given to you by the department coordinator or your teacher. These assessments will help your teacher to target your instruction and instructional materials to your level, resulting in increased learning.
Accreditation activities are now underway for our school! In order to keep our status as an accredited school, we are looking for ABE students to become involved in some activities. By giving your time, your voice can be heard! Does this sound interesting to you? Consider joining Student Council. The next meeting will be held in March or April.

Are you interested in more conversation time? It's coming soon!
If you are interested in taking a Citizenship class, please let the office know. We would like to start a class after spring break on Friday or Saturday morning.
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA - HiSET INDEPENDENT LEARNING CENTER (ILC) News
The ILC afternoon class continues to grow every week. Concurrent students continue to make progress in their classes and earn credits they need in order to graduate. Altogether this school year, concurrent students have completed 13 classes, including 8 since the current semester began in January. Ninety per cent of students in the afternoon ILC class are enrolled in APEX online classes. Adult student Joseph Lawrence completed his diploma work and will march with other graduates in the graduation ceremony in June. We've seen some very well written essays from our English 11 students since we implemented the writing packets Michele Stiehl created. The upcoming months will likely see an additional 50 to 60 students finishing at least one high school class.
