A Note from the Principal
Dear SPB Families,
Thank you to all those who attended conferences last night, and we look forward to seeing many of you this evening. Like you, we know and value the importance of communication between home and school to ensure a child's success. Quarter 2 is off to a great start!
I strongly encourage you to read this report about how Catholic schools fared during the pandemic compared to public schools. Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School has joined Catholic schools across the nation and in the Diocese of Cleveland in remaining consistent - and sometimes even growing - in achievement throughout the pandemic! You can also click on the image below.
Please keep our eighth graders and parent chaperones traveling to Washington, D.C. this weekend in your prayers. Please pray that they are protected as they travel and that they return safely home. I hope they enjoy this special trip with their classmates!
Finally, I hope to see many of you at A Green Knight to Remember tomorrow at La Vera Party Center. It's sure to be filled with awesome friends, delicious food, and lots of fun!
Enjoy the extended weekend with your families!
Blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal
Green Knight of the First Quarter
Taylor Thomas is an eighth-grade student at Saint Paschal Baylon who is our Green Knight for the first quarter! Teachers were quick to share that Taylor was the perfect choice as our Green Knight. Taylor was nominated by Mrs. Dulzer and Mr. Martin. Mrs. Dulzer shared, “Taylor is a model student who consistently demonstrates the 4 Cs of a Green Knight. She is an excellent student with respect to academics and behavior. She is a young woman we can all be proud to call a Green Knight.” Mr. Martin said that Taylor works hard, is friendly to all, volunteers at Mass and around the classroom, and has shown growth academically and socially since the beginning of 7th grade.
Ms. Raguz shared, “Ever since I have known Taylor, she has been a kindhearted, honest, and polite young lady! She is very intelligent, excelling in so many areas but especially in the area of language arts. She is a talented writer--thoughtful and reflective.” Mrs. Petsche shared, “Taylor is a leader in the class who listens to everyone's opinions and ideas with an open mind and with respect. She provides her own ideas and opinions and successfully collaborates with the group to come up with the best solution. Her dedication, humility, and willingness to work hard to meet her goals make her a shining star at Saint Paschal Baylon.”
Taylor’s family consists of her mom, dad, and both grandmothers. The Thomas family enjoys going on trips to places like Philadelphia as well as spending time together and having fun together. In her free time, Taylor enjoys creative writing, singing, dancing, and theater. Taylor’s favorite subject is language arts because she enjoys creative writing and is a member of the SPB Power of the Pen team. Taylor is still thinking about her plans for the future. She would like to possibly attend Beaumont or NDCL for high school and maybe join a theater group. When asked about Taylor, her grandmother said that she is strong, knows herself, and is intelligent beyond her years. She also shared that Taylor is cooperative and very easy to live with. Her dad shared that Taylor strives for excellence and is a perfect balance of toughness, creativity, and compassion. Mom shared that when she drops Taylor off at school, she always tells her, “You are the smartest girl I know,” and Taylor proves her right every time. Mom continued to share that Taylor is insightful, strong, and a valuable part of their family team.
Friendly, polite, intelligent, and kind were words repeatedly used to describe Taylor. Mrs. Peko said, “ If there is a job to be done, Taylor is the first to volunteer! She is thoughtful and often thinks of her classmates and teachers. She uses her sense of humor to build relationships.” Mrs. Uzzo commented that Taylor is a kind, soft-spoken girl who always reaches out to help others. Mrs. Hanus said, “ I always enjoy reading and listening to her responses that go beyond the basic answer into a much deeper and insightful level of understanding. Taylor is polite and responsible and well deserving of this award.” It is a pleasure to have Taylor as a student at SPB, and we are blessed that she is part of our community. Congratulations, Taylor, on this well-deserved honor!

LAST CHANCE--PTO Christmas Ornament Sale
Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 6, 5, 4
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:10 am-12:55 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
Grade 6 families are asked to volunteer in November, Grade 5 families in December, and Grade 4 families in January.
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 6, Grade 5, Grade 4

Fall Altar Server Training for Second Graders/New Servers
We want you to feel comfortable in this important ministry of service to the church, the altar, and our priests. Sign up for second graders and other grade levels to become an altar server begins on Monday, February 6 after school, with four sessions in church, ending on March 19 installation service at 10:30 Mass. New servers may look to the parish website and train with the special Altar Server Training Video, a college project.
After care will be provided free by Father Lane, who is conducting the training with our deans of altar serving. We are grateful to the parents for giving their children this opportunity that so many of us had when we were in grade & high school to serve at the altar of God. For those youth who are not able to make all the practices or any, please let Father Lane know and you may come on the weekends to “shadow” with a current server for “on-the-job training." To register, please contact Kathryn Mailer, Coordinator: katmailer416@gmail.com
