Happy Thanksgiving!
Welcome to the new Parent Bulletin. We are excited to be launching this new form of communication in an effort to keep you up to date with the happenings in the district.
This edition highlights emergency weather closings, district and school report cards, November Board meeting action, BRAVE program enhancements, the proposed calendar for 2018-19, and upcoming events.
Thank you parents for your efforts to make our district growth possible. We are in a time of economic and social change and see the effects in our classrooms every day. Together, with our joint effort and care for each individual student, we continue to make great strides.Enjoy your time with family and friends over the long weekend. Have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving!
Your Superintendent,
Mary
Emergency School Closings
Recently the Emergency School Closing Weather Letter was shared via IC Messenger as crisp, chilly and slippery winter days are just around the corner. Please know that the decision to close school or delay openings due to inclement weather is based on the best information available at the time the decision is made; however, we can never be sure how the weather will affect all 117 square miles of the school district. If you do not feel that it is safe for your child to attend school or your teenager to drive to school, use your best judgment. Weather-related absences are excused absences.
District and School Report Cards
DPI has released our district and school report cards noting our district score went up from 76.0 to 77.7. Please see the attached message from Chrissy Damm regarding individual school scores and other documents previously shared via IC Messenger. There is much to celebrate in the district.
November Board Brief
Following every Board meeting, a brief summary of the action and information items at the most recent board meeting will be included in this bulletin. The Board Brief for the November 20 School Board meeting is attached. Action items included:
- approving the Academic and Career Guide for the 2018-19 School Year;
- approving the High School Course Catalog List of Substantive Changes and
- eliminating middle school honor roll in light of standards-based grades.
BRAVE Program Enhancements
We are happy to announce that the BRAVE program has expanded programming to include morning care one hour prior to school, extended evening care, and specialized programming between BRAVE sessions. To take advantage of these new offerings please contact the BRAVE site coordinator at your child’s school.
Calendar Options Survey
Attached, please find the proposed calendar for the 2018-19 school year. The recommendation at this time, based on the survey results, is to continue with a more traditional calendar for the 2018-19 school year in terms of start and end dates while making adjustments to move spring break into March and add a four day Easter weekend. More information will be gathered in January and February to refine any additional calendar changes for the 2019-20 school year that could be brought to the Board and approved a full year in advance.
