Parking Lot Safety
The safety of Rising Star students is one of our top priorities. One place where we want to assure safety is our parking lots.
To help us assure students arrive safely, we ask parents to use one of the following options:
- Please use the circle drive to drop off.
- Please park and walk your child to the sidewalk.
To further assure the safety of students, we are asking that parents not use these options:
- Please do not allow your child to walk across the parking lot alone.
- Please do not drop off in the parking lot, without parking and walking your child to the sidewalk.
We want to thank all of our wonderful Rising Star parents ahead of time for helping us assure a safe start to each day!

Did you know that pre-kindergarten (pre-k) classes are available in the Shawnee Mission School District? For the 2017-18 school year, we’re offering pre-k options at 14 elementary schools across the district. The program is free for qualifying students, and there’s a tuition-based option for non-qualifying students.
The district will hold a pre-k enrollment day on April 14, 2017, at each of the 14 pre-k sites. If you or anyone you know has a child who will be four on or before August 31, visit http://www.smsd.org/parents/pages/prek.aspx to access enrollment information and to learn more about the program and locations. It will also answer questions about qualifications necessary to attend the program for free.
Families,
We are currently working on wrapping up our projects in library! Look forward to many projects coming home, as well as continuing to ask students what digital projects and products they have produced in library!
Since we are beginning to approach the end of the year, please start marking down these important days for your calendar. These dates allow the library to begin winding down for the year, as well as continuing to update our book catalogue. Here are those important dates:
Monday, April 17, 2017 = Students will begin checking out only 1 book
Monday, May 1, 2017 = Final Check-Out Day for Books
Monday, May 8, 2017 = All Books Returned / Fines Assessed for all Overdue Books
Friday, May 12, 2017 = Overdue Book Fees Due
Please note that if your child returns any overdue books that you will no longer be charged the overdue fee for the library. Once a fee is paid, there will be no refunds. If you're in doubt, please bring the book to the library, and Mr. Wilson will assist with the book.
If you have any questions about overdue books, reports will be following your child home shortly.
If you have any further library questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail Mr. Wilson at RyanWilson@smsd.org!

Calling all Star DADS!
