Unami United
November 12, 2016
Dear Unami Parents, Guardians & Students,
On Tuesday, Unami students had the opportunity to participate in the district-wide mock election and on Friday they had the opportunity to learn more about Veteran's Day and more significantly, had the chance to personally thank two of our nation's veterans, Colonel Boquist, and Mr. Keats, a WWII veteran. I was so very proud of our students display of honor and respect.
If your family ordered cookie dough from our fall fundraiser, student/parent pick-up will be on this Wednesday, November 16th, from 2:30 to 5:30 PM in our Auxiliary Gym.
Hope you enjoy our letter!
Unami United,
Mrs. Lang
Principal
INSTRUCTIONAL SPOTLIGHTS
This year, along with our newsletter, we will be "tweeting" out photos and 144 character descriptions of all the fabulous happenings in our community. You can easily filter these "tweets" by using the district's new CB Mobile App.
VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY
The assembly began with the 9th grade choir's performance of two songs, including the National Anthem, and with an explanation of the origins of this national holiday. Colonel Boquist explained to students several components of active military service along with sharing his own personal experiences. Mr. Keats shared his enlistment and deployment during WWII. Unami students were an amazing audience, respectful and many individually thanked our Veterans before leaving the auditorium.
Student representatives concluded their visit with our visiting Veteran's by sitting down to lunch and having the opportunity to hear many more of their amazing stories.
Thank you so very much to Colonel Boquist and Mr. Keats for sharing their day with us and for your great service to our country.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
From the Nurse's Corner
With decreasing sunlight, we often experience fatigue and irritability which may lead to over sleeping, consuming too many carbohydrates and weight gain.
The decreasing level of sunlight disrupts our circadian (sleep-wake) rhythm. Additionally, there is a drop in our serotonin levels (brain chemical) and melatonin which disrupts our sleep and mood patterns.
A few tips to help you through the short, dark days of winter:
- Bright environment – Open your blinds or turn on all of your lights. If your classroom or office does not have a window, take breaks and seek the sunshine.
- Get outside – Even in cold weather, spend some time soaking in the sunlight.
- Exercise -- always a good idea.
- Keep regular sleep schedule – Try to avoid the urge to go to bed early.
- Nutrition – Take advantage of the delicious fall/winter fruit and vegetables.
- If the above doesn’t help, plan a trip to a warm, sunny climate!
