PTO MEETING
From the desk of Ken Napaver, Principal
November 22, 2021
As we approach the Thanksgiving break, I can't help but reflect on these first three months of the 21-22 school year and the last 18 months as well. It has seemed for far too long now that the challenges the pandemic has brought to our school community have almost become "our new normal." With the constant changes and mandates, our staff, students, and you, the parents, have repeatedly shown that we will continue to support each other and continually work to better our students and school. With it being the season of giving thanks, I want to personally thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to navigate these uncharted territories in both school and society.
As we continue to bring back some normalcy, I want to share some exciting news; The Palmer Mall has allowed us to display our student's artwork in one of their concourses. Please stop by the mall and admire our student's hard work and talent if you have a moment.
We will continue to reach out to our communities and create those partnerships and have our students display their talents.
Thank you, and I wish you and your family all the best during the holiday season.
Sincerely,
Ken Napaver, Principal

Kindergarten
November is coming to an end, and this week is a short week due to Thanksgiving break. We will be operating on a half-day schedule on November 24 and will be closed from the 25th through November 29, 2021. We are going to use this week to review ELA and assess chapter 4 in math. Please use this time to review the unit 2 sight word list with your child, as we will be assessing. Reach out to your child’s teacher if you need the updated list. Please keep an eye out for a Sign Up Genius that will be sent to your email for conferences. You will have the option to meet either virtually or in-person on December 17, 20, & 21. We hope everyone enjoys their time off and we look forward to seeing our students on November 30th!
Mrs. Iovanna's class would like to share with you a story that the children wrote on how to cook a turkey.
How to Cook a Turkey
By Mrs. Iovanna’s class
First, we have to go to the woods and find a turkey. (Liam) Please put on your oven mitts and find a long black pan to put it in. (Bryce). Season it with salt, pepper, and chocolate sauce. (Oulaye, Quinn) Please put it in the oven on warm for one hour. (Aliyah). Make grapes, pumpkin pie, watermelon, salad with sauce, bread, and pizza for side dishes. (Yeri, Malik, Jayce, Andre) Invite our aunt, Pops, Grandmother, mom, friends, teacher, and Bryce. (Kiera, Matteo)
First Grade
The first-grade turkey disguises turned out so cute! Thank you to all the first graders and their families for keeping those turkeys safe! Please remember that Wednesday is a half-day, and if your student is going to be going home a different way than usual, please send a note to your teacher. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Fall Break!
Second Grade
The third grade will be continuing onto Unit 2 Week 3 of our reading program this week. We will be focusing on the comprehension skill of drawing conclusions as we read as well as the spelling skill of compound words. In math, we will be taking our Topic 3 test on Wednesday. This test focuses on multiplying with factors 3,4,6,7, and 8. We will be ending our week by starting our investigation of division! In Science, we will be wrapping up our unit on Life Cycles and Traits by completing a project on Monday, reviewing Tuesday and Wednesday, and completing the assessment on Thursday. It will be another busy week in third grade!
Third Grade
During our short week together, students will be relating multiplications and division equations to strengthen their understanding of both topics. We will also be completing Thanksgiving-themed activities that reinforce spelling and comprehension skills. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Fourth Grade
Hello, Fourth Grade Families! This week there will be no spelling or vocabulary words. There are no tests this week due to Thanksgiving break!🦃 Instead, we will be doing a project to end “Because of Winn Dixie” and watch the movie on Tuesday. Wednesday is a 12:25 dismissal and there is no school Monday, November 29. We wish you all a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Fifth Grade
Though the next two weeks are short, we will be swamped in 5th grade! In ELA, we will be wrapping up our persuasive writing and starting our next storing “The Perpetual Motion Machine.” In Math, we will be taking time to do a Thanksgiving activity, then wrapping up dividing decimals after the break. We will be continuing learning about early explorers in Social Studies and space in science.
Also, we are in desperate need of the following items for our classrooms:
-Tissues
-Clorox Wipes
-Paper Towels
-Hand Sanitizer
Any donations of these items would be greatly appreciated.
