February Cheetah News

Principal's Corner

It’s hard to believe the school year is half over. Please join us for our Literacy night on February 6th. Doors will open at 5:30. This is a fun family night that is full of lots many different engaging activities for the entire family to enjoy. PTC will be selling a light dinner in the cafeteria.

This month, Stayton Elementary will be hosting the district's board meeting here in our cafeteria on February 21st beginning at 6 pm. If you are curious about what is happening at our school this is a great opportunity to find out. You will see a variety of teachers and students sharing the learning that is happening here at Stayton Elementary. Hope to see you all there.

Also in February our ELL (English Language Learner) students in kindergarten through 3rd grade will take the state ELPA (English Language Proficiency Assessment). ELPA testing will begin the week of February 18th and continue through the first few weeks of March. You can help support your student by making sure they get plenty of rest and encouragement during this time. We want to ensure we have done everything to ensure they do their very best.

AVID Corner

The AVID System of Best Practices for Teaching says that each lesson should include: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. The way we strive for this in our classrooms is by asking students to track which elements we have used in our lessons. We do this by using a WICOR tracker. We’ve noticed by using this tool for awhile that our students do pay attention to these elements in our lessons and are excited when we successfully have all five elements. Ask your child at home how they used WICOR today!

Every Day Matters

Your child's regular attendance in school encourages academic and social-emotional success. Together, Families, educators and community members can support a child's attendance and help each student stay on the path to success! In Oregon, students are considered chronically absent when they miss 10%of the school year, or 18 days.
