Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of October 8th
Highlights From Last Week....
This week we were learning machines!
This week our class read stories about baby animals and their families. Your child discovered ways in which baby animals move, such as hopping, running, galloping, and crawling.
We learned the vocabulary words: movement, adventure, exhausted, exciting and arrived. Our sight word was "we" and we focused on the letter Aa.
In Math, we worked on decomposing numbers with totals of 4 and 5. We wrote numerals 1-5 in order. We worked with numbers 6-8. We learned how to write the numbers and use the numeral to represent a quantity.
A peek at our learning this week...
This week our class will be focusing on ways in which we use our five senses to hear, taste, touch, see, and smell. Children will read about how they can explore the world around them by using their senses.
Here are some activities you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: senses, explore Write terms for each of the five senses on index cards. Invite your child to explore your home by identifying things they see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. Record their findings on the cards.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: see Write the word see on paper and have your child trace the word. Then play a game of “I See.”
Category Words: senses Ask questions about the senses. For example: What sense tells you that dinner is cooking? (smell)
Phonics: s Form an s with a piece of string. Then have your child form the letter. Look at a newspaper or magazine and ask your child to circle words that begin with the letter s. Make a list of those words and help your child read them.
In Math, we will work on decomposing numbers with totals up to 9. We will write numerals 1-9 in order. We will learn how to write the numbers and use the numeral to represent a quantity.

A HUGE shout out to Aidan, Addison and their families for donating EXPO markers and wipes, we REALLY appreciate it!! Also, thank you Frankie for the EXPO markers!! Our friends LOVE using the markers and boards for our learning!!!
A big welcome to Emilia and Hudson! They joined our school family last week and are adjusting well to our rules and routines!
I have been working with each of your children on their letter naming and sight words. Some of our friends need some extra practice at home with their letter and sight words. I will be sending home some flashcards this week. Please review these nightly. The more they know, the better reader's they will become. Thank you in advance for your help.
HEADPHONES: We will be starting our computer based math program during math centers this week. I have some headphones that we can all use, however, if you would like to send in some for your own child, that would be fine. They can store them in their cubbies. Thank you!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
Thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic book fair last week!
There are some amazing readers in our room already. We will continue learning new strategies to read. I hope you get time to continue to read each night. Flash cards are a great way to read. We have been doing them each day! The students are making good progress.
Please practice our sight words. The sight words are: I, CAN, WE, THE and this week SEE.
Our class wish list: Clorox wipes
Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
Your children are doing so well with our sight words, to date they are "I, can, the, we , see". Please continue reading daily with your children (I sent home the reading logs last week) and practice those (5) words with your children. The more they instantly recognize the words, the better readers they will become. We practice the words daily in class.
We are in need of EXPO markers, the children use the dry erase markers every day and they are beginning to run out of ink. Thank you in advance!
Thanks for all you do!
Mrs. Marcoux
