NECAP Science Assessment

Our 4th graders will be taking the New England Common Assessment Science Test next week. The assessment helps us to chart student, school, district and state performance in science. Parents will be provided with a detailed report on their child's performance in the Fall.

Our school and district have made impressive gains in the area of science achievement. We believe this is due to our strong lesson and unit design and excellent instruction. We engage our students through the skilled use of kits for each unit of study. Teachers attend ongoing trainings through a partnership with Gems-Net at the University of Rhode Island. Students participate in many hands-on activities and work cooperatlvely with their peers. Our 4th graders will complete an inquiry task with peers in small groups as a part of the NECAP Assessment. They will also complete some science writing that is similar to work in their science notebooks and journals. Questions such as, "did your results match your prediction?" help students think deeply and reflect on their data.

We will provide an optional breakfast to each 4th grader on each testing morning and we encourage the students to get a good night's sleep. Our master schedule is adjusted so that will not miss any of their unified arts classes.

School Safety Reminders

We practice our required safety procedures on a regular basis. This week we held a fire evaluation drill. Please remind your child that practicing helps to keep everyone safe.

Some of our students exit the rear of the building as part of our procedures.

Please be VERY CAREFUL and DRIVE SLOWLY behind the building.

Thank you for help keeping our students safe.

Helpful Spring Reminders:

Please send your child to school with layers as the temperatures can vary.

Sunscreen/bug spray should be applied at home before school.

Appropriate footwear is recommended as it is difficult to run in flip-flops and sandals.

Water bottles are permitted and encouraged to keep our students hydrated.

Please keep us updated on allergies, such as bee stings.
