Josephine's Mother was Carrie Mcdonald. She was a laundress and she never married Josphine's father, Eddie Carson.
Josephine had dropped out of school early and got married at the age of 13 to Willie Wells. When that marriage ended she got married at the age of 15 to Will Baker in 1921. When she left that marriage. She kept his name.
She was born June 3, 1906.
Public Life
After a year performing with the Jones family band and the Dixi Steppers, She went to new york where she got a part in the chours for Shuffle Along, The first successful black musical. She went to paris in 1925. She became famous while singing and dancing in La Revue Negre.
She died April 12, 1975, Paris, France.
