Message from the Superintendent

Dear ECSD Families,

As we move into Memorial Day weekend let us take time to remember and honor those who have lost their lives in military service defending our country. Many of us spend the long weekend coming together as a community to watch parades or host picnics with friends and family as the Memorial Day weekend signifies the start of summer. It has become the perfect time to do these things centered around gratitude and remembrance and gives us the opportunity to take a step back and remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to create the life we enjoy.

With Gratitude,

Suzanne Cybulla

Band & Choir Concerts

The SCMS Music Department once again pulled off some amazing concerts to end the school year. Our 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students, led by Mr. Fryer & Mr. Volz, performed outdoors on Sunday, May 26 at the St. Clair plaza. The weather held off for an outstanding afternoon of music! The 7th and 8th grade SCMS Choir class, led by Mr. Adragna, performed a virtual concert that premiered on YouTube on Thursday, May 22. Students and parents were all able to see the video which became live at 7pm that night and has hundreds of views on YouTube. All the students and teachers should be commended for their perseverance and hard work this past year as they came up with creative ways to showcase the talent at SCMS. Please check out the SCMS Band concert here: https://youtu.be/H1Lp6Hr3uu4 and the SCMS Choir concert here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOXe1QfXV_o

Academic & Celebration Awards

This year SCMS will be presenting end of the year academic awards to their students, but in a virtual fashion. All 5th grade students will be celebrated as they end their K-5, elementary career. The 6th-8th grade students that meet SCMS award criteria will have grade specific videos created for them as well. The videos will be emailed to all the parents and students who are receiving awards (just like past invites to the PAC), shared on the SCMS Newsletter, and be made available on YouTube for parents to watch and archive for a later date. Once the videos are posted, email notifications will be sent and all students receiving awards will be given their certificates in an envelope to take home. Parents and students can expect this to happen the last week of school. SCMS is very excited to acknowledge their wonderful students for this past year's work!

St. Clair Middle Staff Spotlight

This weeks ECSD Staff Spotlight highlights Ms. Lori Hannon. Currently, Ms. Hannon teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Art and 8th grade Journalism/Yearbook at St. Clair Middle School. She has been a teacher in ECSD for 31 years and has taught Art at Eddy, Gearing, and Washington Elementary Schools along with a multitude of Social Studies courses at SCMS. Alongside her teaching duties, Ms. Hannon has coached 7th grade girls track and has been a part of multiple school committees. She loved seeing all of the creativity that comes out of the students and loves being involved.

Outside of school, she has previously been a part of the St Clair Art Associations Public Art Committee and has acted on their Board of Directors. She currently enjoys sunrise photography along the river between St Clair and Marine City and takes photos nearly every morning. She says, “We live in a beautiful area, and I feel lucky to watch the freighters and the beautiful river daily. I currently have my photography for sale at the St Clair Art Association and at the newly opened TAP Cafe in St Clair. It will also be on the walls of 2 Rivers Winery opening soon in downtown Marine City. St Clair is filled with great, hardworking students. I have enjoyed teaching them at different ages and in a variety of subjects over the years. I especially have enjoyed working with all of the great staff members at SCMS. They are some of the most caring and hard working people I know.”

We can’t thank Ms. Lori Hannon enough for her love and dedication to our schools, our students and our community!
