Hello Beck Families!

Happy Special Education Day Everyone,

On National Special Education Day, we honor the staff, parents, and students who make a difference in our lives every day! UCS Special Services Program is proud to provide services to over 3,000 students. Every child has the potential to learn, grow, and know they belong!

This week Beck Centennial was a busy place - learning, growing, giving and thinking of others! We've seen so many donations to our Giving Tree, Toys for Tots, and Mitten Tree, thanks to our generous Beck families! We will be collecting those things through next Thursday, December 8. Correction from last week: The Mitten Tree hats and mittens collected will be going to support, "Friends of Foster Kids" out of Macomb County. Toys for Tots supports the U.S. Marine efforts to supply every child a toy at Christmas. The Giving Tree supports children in foster care through the Macomb County Foster Care program.

Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders are stretching their leadership wings! The upper elementary students held their Student Council election this week. The winners will be announced by our school sponsor, Mrs. Boes, next week. Look for Student Council activities in our school very soon!

Finally, we were excited to welcome our school Superintendent, Mr. Robert Monroe, to Beck this morning. You can read that story below!

Enjoy your weekend!

First Grade Gets Up Close & Personal with Naturalist!

Life When It's Snowy!

All three of our first grade classrooms spent time with the naturalist, Lisa, from the Huron-Clinton Metro Park Mobile Learning Lab. The students learned about animal adaptations in winter. Some animals hibernate, some migrate, and some change colors! The students felt an actual bear pelt, saw a real hummingbird, and other artifacts Lisa brought with her to share with our first grade students.

Toys For Tots!

Program Sponsor, Mr. Kurmas, 3rd Grade

The 3rd grade is sponsoring Toys for Tots this year. Toys for Tots is a charitable program that delivers gifts of toys around the holidays to less fortunate families. The program was developed by the Marine Corps 75 years ago. Beck has a long history of partnering with the Marines for the last 10 years to help those in our community. To make a donation, please just send in a new, unwrapped toy and leave it in our labeled collection box here in the Beck front hallway.

Parents of 6th graders who elected "Band" for 2nd semester will want to attend the evening event scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6. The event is scheduled, Dec. 6 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Beck Cafeteria.

Emergency Numbers Up to Date in PowerSchool?

This fall our school staff has been working with our district administration and security team to make sure we are prepared in the event of a school emergency - of any kind. School safety is everyone's priority - staff, students and parents. Our Beck staff have a bag always ready to take with them, should we ever need to leave their class, or our school. Parents, we need you to be ready, too. In the event that we need to contact parents, we would use PowerSchool to provide us with parent contact information. It is very important that those numbers you list are up to date, accurate, and reflect who you would trust with your child in the event we cannot reach you. Please take a moment and look at what emergency contacts you have listed for yourself, your spouse, and any others you name to pick up your child. You can easily go directly to PowerSchool by clicking the link below:
